For those of you who thought Mr. Scott was only a sci-fi warrior not so.
According to his bio - James Doohan, better known as Mr. Scott on the original series Star Trek was a soldier in the Canadian Army landing on Juno Beach on D-Day. Subsequent to the landing he was wounded in combat sustaining several gunshot wounds and even losing a part of a finger.
Well Mr. Scott has beamed up to his final frontier..

James Doohan was what he was and I am not taking anything away from that, trust me. Is it just me or are we becoming the media generation? Do we still know what heros are? Did anyone start a thread when James Stockdale passed away?

General Westmoreland ? or did I miss that one too?
Edit:..... No disrepect to James Doohan, or his family was meant by my short answer, he was a fine actor, a fine citizen, and veteran, and will surely be missed by all, not just trekies, and his passing should be noted.

Well sorry I didn't know who James Stockdale was (until I saw your post and looked him up on the web).
I didn't see anyone mention Doohan being a hero, though any vet that landed at Normandy is a hero in my book.
I think that there are many who know Star Trek and loved how it enertained us.

If you go a bit lower on this page you will see my post on Admiral James Stockdale. I posted it on the day of his death to note his passing and the fact he was awarded the MOH.
I did not mention General Westmoreland - not really sure why.
