Just like many of you, I get spam email sent to me all the time. No matter how little I try and limit the distribution of my email (I have several I give for different functions) I still get them. Recently I noticed that the Subect lines seem to contain more bits of information that may be relevant. For example more of my personal friends' names appear in the subject. Many times the topics seem to refer to hobbies of mine (model building, gun collecting) or events I've just attended (lunch invites from people to specific restaurants I've been to recently, ) that are close enough I cannot ignore them.
I don't know if they are just randomly getting lucky or if they are actually scanning my emails for keywords and then using them back into the subject line. Anyone else getting such emails?

For awhile, here @ work, we would get emails that appeared to be from employees or from some of the Manufacturers we work for. Of course they were fake as none of them send encryted .zip files
their "fake" addresses were usually off just enough to tell except to the untrained eye. I loathe and despise SPAM
The ones that have me perplexed are the ones that come over with no suject no return address - no way to block them.

Spammers are getting more sophisticated. Spam is a pain but it will only really screw up your machine if you open it.

I was made aware of spyware on another DG and installed a free anti spyware programme. I was amazed at the amount of spyware I had been unknowingly downloading

I also recommend clearing your cookies and temporary internet file cache regularly.
Not only should you not open attachments but don't open suspect emails at all.

That was the first thing I thought about and I had the IT department update mine. I guess maybe they are just being really lucky of else the spyware is deeper in the system that I checked.
