Some of you have been wondering what I have been upto lately inbetween other stuff like doing my first piece of armor.

I got a little tired of Tamiyas CMP 12 cab Quad and it's inaccuracies. It is more 1/32 then 1/35 and the chassis (for a Ford) was all wrong. So I decided to build my own, to scale, and I have backdated it one model to the #11 cab the earliest one of the lot. This is also a 3 ton version and is a little bit of a labour of love as I owned a real one 20 odd years ago in New Zealand.

I actually started this about 12 months ago and got it out to finish about 6 weeks ago. It is up to the stage of making the windscreen frame. The cab is still in seperate parts and is just tacked togeather to check fit and also to get the height of the windscreen. I intend on reproducing this cab in resin as there are some other types of CMP I wish to model and I would rather not do this cab twice. Also made but not in the pics is the radiator. The cap of which sticks out of that hole in the top front panel. Grill will be homemade out of PE mesh and brass strip.

As you can see I used the Tamiya Quad running gear with modifications where needed.

All measurements were taken off real vehicles found here in Australia and thanks also to a few friends in Victoria, Australia who helped with pics and measurements as well.

All comments welcome and if you see something you think is wrong please tell me as I would rather know now.

I am so glad that they don't make these in kits. We would not be able to watch the fantastic progress of all your creations. This will be on top of your best built list!!

Incredible, if only I had a small amount of your scratch building skills. Thanks for sharing not only the finished models, but letting us salivate over the in-process pictures aswel.

Cheers

(Sigh) Cliff, Cliff, Cliff. You make it look sooooo easy.

I hate you. (not really)
I detest your modeling (exept the stuff you've done, you're doing, and the stuff you haven't done)
I hope you die (not actually, I really want you to live forever)

Well, now that I have THAT off my chest.
Freaky awesome job!!!! I totally admire your talent and as usual, pray you read my posts with that Aussie sense of humor!

.................................

............. ............ ................

hhmmmm.

.........................................

yup... Hhhmmmm

................

Oh well I give up. I normally never make a post where I say only ooooh and aaaaaahh but in this case I have spend a great amount of time looking at these pics. Going to a dark corner in the attic crying myself to sleep, Then dragged my body back behind the pc to look at it again and Began to built up a great depression.......... I looked and I looked and I just can`t find a wrong thing about it. So for once I will say it....
OOOOOOOH AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!
Cliff don`t keep this vehicle away from us. Just finish it ASAP Knowing you will make another masterpiece out of it.

Now if I only could persuade you to make a little groundwork with it.

Howdy fellas,

OK.......first, my good mate Cliff already knows how I feel about both his work, and his talents.....so I'll leave the very nice comments by other's to 'ice the cake'.

What I will say is this;
My good friend 'Roo has been one of the little wells of inspiration, education, and warm comradeship that I have had the honour of enjoying during my time spent here at Armorama.
His obviously innate ability to create 'something' from 'nothing' using mainly his bespeckled eyes has been a source of creativity and mentorship I have drawn from many a time........ This thread is just another example of his scratchbuilding talents my friends.

In fact, I have been working on many other large scale, scratchbuilding projects of my own {two of which are ear-marked for museums} and have been assembling a handful of 'photo-articles' based upon my humble efforts.
One of these "photo-articles" is depicting a few simple methods of how one would 1); determine precisely how a complex shape is figured out, and 2); how one would translate that to styrene. Our good Cliff's impressive work cutting each and every piece of his scratchbuilt Cab is a prime example of not only superb pattern-making, but also of assembling each of these patterns so that you end up with an accurate rendering of the 'real thing'!

My hat's off to you Pard'!........you are again, a source of both inspiration......and enjoyment

warmest regards,

Tread
