Yes, there is a thing as too many kits. I finally have a space big enough to sort out all my kits. I'm about 65-75% complete and just need to get some more shelf units. A lot of the kits are built inside. Since I move a lot, I take the turret off of the tank and store the kit back in the box. I've got to get a labeling system in place so I know which kits are built, started and unbuilt. I haven't even got to the car kits yet.

Thanks Rob.
I should be able to placate my wife for a while by showing her those pictures.
She told me about 6 months ago I had crossed the line from builder to collector. Since then I have built about six kits, and bought about 14...

I still haven't gotten too the fourth corner of the room. There is bunch of 1/48 scale aircraft, cars and some of the robot related sci-fi kits. I also have a closet full of 1/72 scale armor upstairs where I do some building.

Good idea on transporting the built kits though... Never thought of that...

I like staring into your teetering piles of kits and i.d.'ing them. You have alot of duplicates - an army of sorts in many scales. :-)

I don't think I have one in 1/48 scale. The old Revell 1/40 scale one is the largest, and I have several in 1/72 scale. I've got several 1/48 scale Spitfires though.

The number of kits is staggering enough as it is, hence the remarks of you being better stocked than most modelshops. What makes it al the more incredible is the fact that you have to move on a regular basis...I think you need more space to ship your models than I needed for my last house move altogether...

Still, you don't have to worry about your pension, you can just open a shop..

Wow...just wow. I wish the hobby shops around here were that well stocked....you know, if you need to get rid of, or relocate some of those.....

Nice stash Rob!!! Very impressive indeed!

I think we'll just declare you the STASH KING!!!

Henk... that's what my wife's uncle & aunt did/do... they bought up tonnes of hobby stuff over 20-30 years as well as various collectable items in Rhodesia, SA and the UK, and are now selling the stuff off a bit at a time to supplement their pensions...

Robin, people like you provide a valuable service to the rest of us here... whenever we get moans from the lady of the house, we can just point out how "lucky" she is to have us, rather than a stash like yours!!! :-) :-) :-) BTW, the same holds true for motorbikes, there's a guy round the corner who has about a dozen, all BSAs (old British make), some of them more than one example of the same model! I use him to placate the wife also!! :-) :-) :-)

I send a hotlink with your pics to my girlfriend who says that I have to many empty boxes and I should throw them away.
I wonder what she will say now...

Hi Robin!

Do you sometimes have a box in your hands and say to yourself "when the hell did I buy that?"
Or, if your wife would take away one or two kits, would you notice that?

Jean-Luc

P.S. Is there a way I could have the personal phone number of your wife!

Robin's stash isn't that unique. I remember on other DGs, someone posted "show your stash" and submitters sent huge collections of models.

What is impressive is that Robin has repeats of the same type of kit, not to mention kits of different modeling interest. I don't know of many modelers who have repeats of the same kit.

Nonetheless, you'd all be surprised at the quantity of some of the stashes modelers have. I see a lot of plastic in Robin's stash, but some modelers have resin kits costing $100-$200 each.

Also, sometimes modelers don't throw away empty boxes either even after the model is built.
