Last week I was on my way home from work when I felt something give in my ankle. It hurt a bit but nothing to worry about, or so I thought. The next day I couldn't bare to put any weight on my left heel at all. As I'm a postman it was obvious that I couldn't work so I rang in to say I would be off work for a day or two.
After five days my ankle wasn't improving so I went to the doctor. He said I'd damaged my Achilles tendon and gave me a sick note for another two weeks.
Two thoughts have occurred to me since.
1. Whilst with the doctor he looked me up and down and said "It would be a good idea to watch your weight as well."
Was he implying I'm fat?
2. I've only ever heard of top sportsmen having Achilles injuries.
Surely this implies I'm in excellent condition and at the peak of my fitness.
These two thoughts contradict each other so I'm at a loss to explain how the doctor could be so wrong!
