A recent query by shonen_red (aka Ralph Emerson M. Dabao) led me to the ICM Holdings company and a fantastic range of products. This promising Ukrainian model company really does have something for almost everyone.
Herewith a summary of the ICM releases for 2005 to date.

one thing that bothers me is why the sniper wears Adidas shoes?
I noticed it on one of their other Afghan war figure sets as well so I'm kind of wondering whats the story behind it...sponsership maybe? :-)

This is one of the best places to get ICM kits in the US: http://www.alanger.us/. Only once did it take more than a week to receive kits from Alanger, a quick e-mail asking about my order status netted me a free gift for my patience. I believe I received a free set of ICM Soviet tankers 1939-42.

That's correct... Alanger in the US carry both the ICM Holdings and the Alanger/ICM ranges, amongst others.
The 2 companies should, however, not be confused for each other. They are 2 seperate model manufacturers - as both companies point out in their portfolio profiles.

The Adidas-type shoes are very correct for Spetsnaz operatives. I have a Russian book, "War of the Recon Scouts" and the matter of footwear is addressed. Some Commanders frowned on their use as they weren't Soviet issue, but their use was pretty widespread. I'm impressed with ICM's attention to detail.......Bill G

Also if you're looking for a good 1/72nd kit, check the BTR-60 !
It's one of the best detailed 1/72nd kit I've ever seen !
I got myself the BTR-60P, the one with open top, and all you need to detail the interior is a 1/72nd scale kalashnikov !

Bill,
could you please add more about this issue, why they have used Adidas track shoes instead of something more suitable to harsh terrain?
btw, I got a nice book on the subject:
The Soviet-Afgan War by lester w. Grau and Michael A. Gress. still havent read it but it seems to be a comprehensive and complete research of the conflict based on the only official research of the war by the Russian Army staff.

Could it be because the tracks left by someone wearing civvie shoes could easily be discounted? Where as military boots generally leave a very definitive spoor?

still they could have used something better for harsh terrain than track shoes that have a thin sole and a very low profile which doesnt protect the ankles and doesnt protect from snake bites.
I also doubt it there were any Adidas dealers in a rural country such as Afghanistan rendering Adidas footmarks pretty much a rare and alarming sight for Mujahieedin scouts.

Elad, I agree that I would much rather have a pair of good sturdy boots when mucking around the mountains, but they did use the track shoes. They were not Adidas brand, but a knock-off made in China. They were acquired locally. There is a reference to their use in Artyom Borovik's book, "The Hidden War". If you can find a copy, it is a great read. Borovik is a journalist who covered the war. I have a pair of Afghan War Soviet Jump boots which are very comfortable and sturdy. I am a Police Officer and I wear them when I do tactical operations. If anyone is interested, I can scan some of the photos from the "War of the Recon Scouts" book. The Spetsnaz operatives had some leeway in their gear (as do most elite units).....Bill G

very intresting Bill, thanks for the info.
its good to see some companys still put research into the subject and add flavours that only a well researched product would show.
too bad some big companies dont put half the thought into products which depict much more popular subjects like certain wrong kits of the Merkava Mk.III, M4a2 and Sheridan and OIF GI figures that cost thrice the price of the ICM Spetsnaz kits but got the fatigues and/or the armor vest all worng but still someone charges 16$ for them because it's a well known resin producer.
