Ciao everyone,
Just thought I would share my night last night...........
I was at the end of shift when we got a call for weapons and shots fired. I raced to the scene (my sargeant got there first) and here was a guy sitting in his car and my sargeant was in the car window doing something (found out later, he was cuffing him.) I ran up to the side of the vehicle and saw a guy sitting inside pale as a ghost with blood all over him. The first thing in my mind was "Great, I am going to have to stick my finger in the hole in his head to try and save his life." [You would be shocked at how much blood the body holds.] Oddly enough, the guy shot himself in the leg with a 9mm, and then threw the gun out the window. I held direct pressure on the wound and the ambulance came and got him. He almost bled to death, but I think that he will make it. He was talking to me the whole time and all I could think about was "I wonder if there is another gun in the car?" After that, NCIS took over and I got to go home. I still don't know the whole story, but it has a happy ending because the only one who got hurt was the bad guy. What was even more weird, the blood from the guy clogged the gun up and it took us forever to clear the weapon.
If I find out the rest of the story, I'll let you know. P.S. Don't ever let "road rage" get the best of you. If someone is messes with you on the road, let it go. There are crazy people out there, and you never know who has a weapon. It isn't worth your life.
Ciao for now
Rob

Rob, thanks for sharing. You did a great job!Unbelievable, this was all because of road-rage? It sounded like a mob shoot-out. Does this kind of thing happen a lot in Pensacola?
Like the sergeant always say in Hill Street Blues: Just be carefull out there!!
(or was it: let's do it to them before they do it to you???
)

Hello Rob!
Just take good care of you! Cars and guns are not a good mix! Too much power in the hands of a person! And when you add alcohol... brrrr

Ciao Guys,
No, fortunately, this doesn't happen really at all. Just a very strange situation. To be honest, I love this kind of thing. We, as policemen and policewomen, can be a very morbid lot.
Ciao for now

I have noticed in the last couple of years that "Road Rage" is getting much more common. My department now has that term entered into the computer as a call type. Half the problem is that we have way too many people who just plain cant drive or drive like asses and the other half of the people that think they are above everyone else and have to retaliate for even the smallest slight. Whenever I go on a call like that, I try with all my might to find some way to make someone go to jail :-)

Been there. Not a fun thing. When I was dealing with p---ed off drivers, they were mostly venting their displeasure using their vehicles as the instrument of delivery. Every so often we would get lucky and the moron who was the agressor would be the only one to die, and we would consider that a successful prosecution and conviction.

Road rage .. it's strange that it seems to be a fast growing problem all over, we hear a lot more cases even here in England (not with guns, but there are many ways to cause someone harm). I've had an angry guy come marching up to my car door once before after I gave him a little honk on the horn for pushing in, it makes you cautious about using your horn.

Ciao all,
Apparently, the story goes that the guy hit something on the road and someone ended up following him to the base (even though he has nothing to do with the base). The guy might have gotten paranoid of being followed and tried to enter the base in the outbound lane. This caused the gate sentries to block his path, causing him to swerve and smack into the concrete barracades. I'm speculating here - he was being followed, he has armed guys yelling at him to stop - he pulled out his gun and accidently shot himself in the leg. He did tell me "I guess I messed up, didn't I?"
Oh, he survived. But, as I told my recent trainee, "Don't knock stupid people. They keep us (cops) in a job."
Ciao for now

Yep, Just when you think you've seen it all, some goof comes along to prove you wrong.
It amazes me too how stupid some people can be. Like someone mentioned, it's job security...you just have to laugh.....or go crazy...
Be safe out there brothers and sisters! I have less than eight years to go...
