So I have been having this run of bad luck/stupid mistakes whatever you want to call it. First I drop a nearly completed Leopard C2, then I have issues with some of the parts on my Resin Canadian Cougar and make a mess of the amphib drive units, then last night I look at my work in progress Elefant and realized that one of the fenders moved after I glued it and was out of place and impossible to get free... while pondering this (after having assembled one entire run of Fruili tracks for it incorrectly and fixing that I might add) I notice I also mucked up the gun mantlet.
So this makes 3 in a row and all 3 were for campaigns too LOL. Very frustrated right now. Just needed to vent and was wondering if anyone else had spells where everything they touched got messed up. I can't decide if it is a run of bad luck or someone above telling me I suck at model building lol.

Grab a simple kit, I recommend an old Tamiya kit or a new Revell Braille kit. Slap that kit together and build it straight OOB. Gets your momentum going and the satisfaction of building a completed kit.

Best course of action is to set the kit down and go do something else for a day or two, then come back and see if you have a fresh perspective on it. Otherwise the frustration will build up and you'll start piling mistakes on top of one another.
The slump I've been in has more to to with the spring weather we had been experiencing. Too nice to sit at a desk indoors, so I'd spend the evening outside. Now that the Carolina summer is upon me, I spent the other night cleaning/organizing my work space and I think I'll be getting back onto a couple of my kits and try to get them finished up!
Everything comes and goes in cycles, you just have to accept it sometimes.

I have very bad luck and things go wrong with most things I work on.
I remember one time a few years ago I was making a big robot creature thing.
It had a beam that went in the middle of it in the 1st step and then in the next 10 steps every thing went around that beam.
After that everything connected to that beam.
After the 1st 10 steps I discovered tat I forgot to put on that beam.
With all the pieces around where it was I couldn’t put it in and hade to take the glued kit almost completely apart.
I also once duped a new can of paint on a almost finished car model.
But I’m expect things to go wrong. It happens with everything not just models.

Yep!
In adition to woes like you, I have tinted lenses that make my models look way better than they really are and when I do look at them in an objective light, I see how crappy it really looks from all the simple mistakes that I could have avoided. The result is I stop building for awhile and it's hard to get back into the mood.
So, I come here to regain perspective and inspiration to climb back into the saddle.

As the resident Murphy, it's all my fault! I'll pass on to the next poor builder now.

Oh Yeah, I have had my "moments" too. Perhaps the worst was with an older Tamiya M3 Stuart that I picked up on Ebay. I was trying out some new glue that was a lot thinner than what I was used to and ended up with a big fat glue thumprint on the turret. I didn't read the instructions carefully (my motto... build first, read later) and had to disassemble the running gear. After a couple of additional episodes I just decided to put the whole kit in the circular file. Not much $$invested only my time.

Once on a Dragon Sherman, I glued the rear engine deck backwards. I had the air vent at the back instead of under the turret bustle. For some reason I was so focused on getting it to fit right and then tacking it with super glue I didn't even realize it was backwards. Therefore one of my Fireflies has a simulated canvas cover draped over the entire rear deck with tons of stuff piled on so that you cannot see the vent in the wrong position.

My "slumps" don't have to be caused by something going wrong. Sometimes I just get a "Blue Funk" and can't get the next project moving. I went through a 5 month period this year, before my son gave me a "kick start" by asking me to build "his Hummer" the one he drove while with the 82nd, knowing I'd do anything for him, that got my juices flowing again.
Quite a departure for me 1/35 scale Armor, I usually build 1/72 Aircraft. Oh well "a thing of beauty, a joy forever".
Sometimes it's just a matter of so many choices so little time.

I hear ya brotha!
Although my modeling highs and lows are linked to me moods, emotions, stress, and all the rest of the k
k that makes life what it is... When I find a can't put brush to plastic, I read reference material about what I've got lined up on the "production line"... that way when then high comes again I am ready to make it an uber-high!

I have those ruts all the time it just takes a few good built kits either on here or on the web to get me going again. Or if I mess up and it's usually a few in every step in the instrutions that I either read it wrong or put it together backwards.
I like to look at some history books or the military channel or the history channel and it HELPS me some times also.
But if it's a really bad funky rut I need to build a snap together kit and do it fast and brake it, take your frustrations out on it, hit it with a hammer or boot or something and just hit it till you feel better. I have only done that a couple of times. But it got me to do my 1st campaign and I am going to try the German Railroad Gun K5(E) Leopold and I know by the time thats finished I might have did it again.

Yep! I'm in one right now with all of the above and then some. I had a total left shoulder reconstruction on April 26th and just now gettin' around to doin' things. But, I did buy an obscure armor kit yesterday that I've never seen nor heard of that I'll show soon.
Today I'm putting new motors in my 1/16th right now and it's taken all day so far! :-)

I think we all get burned out building every now and then but it sure was fun reading disaster stories.

I find that a change of subject gets me back into the groove - I usually make armour & softskins so when I'm going through a rough patch I build a 'plane, civvy car or ship.

Your in a slump? I've finished 3 figures in 15 years! And hey, I've been working on them every day for the whole time! I just can't seem to get em right.
I do like Robin Gronovius's idea though, makes perfect sense. A nice simple Tamyia, stock, get that good feeling back. I may just try that Robin, thanks.

Had the start of a
on Tuesday----came home to find a shelf had tipped---result Oshkosh M1070 with M88 on board ..plus Foden with Fox on trailer committed suicide ----I was on the point of following them when wife saw damage and said.."You can fix that"........the shock was enough to make me laugh :-) :-) :-) :-) ....slump over.So if you get a hiatus.....(or a hernia..picking up the bits).........pull up a chair and log on to ARMORAMA----bound to revive the spirit...

I took Robins advice and re-shelved the offending kits and went and bought myself 3 1/72 Dragon kits (one I had and 2 new ones). I built 90% of a Late Tiger last night while watching a movie and it was fun for a change. I plan to build the other 2 (Jagdpanther and Stug IV) and paint all 3 before I go back to work on the projects I flubbed. Might mean I miss a campaign deadline but oh well
I also have the 1/48th Stug III I will build next oob. After that I will see where I am at.
Thanks all !
