In July I'm going to visit my Uncle who lives in Indonesia. First we fly to Singapore where we must stay for one day, as flights to Sumatra leave once per two days. We've got a whole day to spend in Singapore. I think it might be a good opportunity to do some shopping. Modelling stuff, of course!
Now I need your advice. Are there any good model shops in Singapore? And where?

Hi Eetu

There are basically 3 model shops which i frequent (because i think they are good)

1) Timemachine studio, DML distributor here. http://www.timemachine-studio.com/ Website explains it all.

2) Miniature Hobby, in MARINA SQUARE. The building is basically just BESIDE millenia walk (where Timemachine studio is at). Just take a short walk across a bridge at the 2nd floor and you're it. The shop itself is basically at 3rd level, just beside the cinema and bowling alley.

3) Hobby point at Tiong Bahru Plaza. 5th floor. Shop is real easy to find.

Modelling aside, you really got to try the food here in Singapore. It is a food paradise! I'm not kidding. All sorts of food from all sorts of culture.

Good luck!

Hi hi,

To backup Danny's list, you can try M workshop at Sunshine plaza (10, PRINSEP LINK S(187948)). It's located inside the building on the ground floor, you cant miss it!
They give quite competitive prices as well.

Cheers!

Ahh yes yes.. other than the shops Danny said. You can try The Orchard Store at Specialist Shopping Centre. The centre is located at the Shopping Strip of Orchard Road.. a must go.

Then there's the Tamiya Showroom, their distributor in Singapore: Stargek
There are also information of all the shops stargek supplies to. Look through the website and you'll find it.

Hope these information helps.. Enjoy your stay in Singapore

Once again, thanks for all these tips. Now the problem is that I doubt I'm able to check out all of those shops. (and my dad, sister and aunt probably want to see more than just hobby shops! :-) ) What would be the best shops to get kits not widely available in Europe? I can buy dragon and tamiya kits in Finland too, so there's no sense dragging tons of common kits back home. I would be interested in kits not widely available in Europe. Like Tamiya's Japanese tanks (I haven't seen any of these in Finland, ever), resin and vinyl kits (especially scfi-fi and figure stuff) are cool too.

I got back last monday. Our stay in Singapore was very pleasant. I was very surprised to find a small model shop right next to our hotel, albert court! We coming back from our little walk when I noticed familiar looking boxes. It was a model shop! I was even more surprised to find some rare halcyon kits there. I had them all, though. They even had an original Space jockey kit! (mine is just a recast) I probably would have got it, but the price was $230 (over 100€). Rare kits are expensive wherever you go. I then bought a set of tamiya british infantry and an academy us. mg set (you can't have too many of those).

Later that day we visited Hobby point at Tiong bahru plaza. That was an awesome store. If I had had more suitcases, I would have bought a stash of Tamiya kits, as they were cheap. Most tanks cost around 40$, in Finland the same kit can cost 40€ (almost double). There I only got two of Konami's collectable alien figures (I got aliens from the two first films. The original alien was fine as it came, but I think I'll repaint the "aliens" version). One interesting thing was that the great majority of sci-fi kits were gundam and other Japanese mechas.

The last shop we had time to visit was a miniature hobby in the marina square. There I bought an afv club Wiesel. It was funny to notice that revell kits where as expensive as in Finland. Stuff imported from the other side of the globe is expensive.
Thanks again for the pointers. I had a great time in Singapore!

Nice to hear that you got a great time here in Singapore Eetu..

I would have to agree with you that kits here are cheaper than countries in Europe. It's just the currency thing... don't you have to agree

Do come visit Singapore soon and remember... bring more suitcases next time ...

Glad you enjoyed your stay here.

A pity you did not have enough space to get more stuff!]
