It seems like some people are able to finish of models in no time, nevertheless with stuning results. Or, they have an unlimited amount of time to make these models.

Me, myself and i are now working for almost 8 months on 3 models on scale 1/48 (su 25, mig 21 and mi 24 hind).

Ok, I am a bit slow, after all I started again after many years of no modelling at all but still, it looks awfully slow to me.

So you folks out there: how many decent size models do you make a year? and in hours counted, how much time a month do you devote to modelling?

I too am amazed at the speed at which some people on this site can produce pieces that are incredible. I don't know how they do it, but more power to them if they can.

I've been back into the hobby now for about 9 months. That was after a 30 year hiatus. So far, I've finished 5 models, all in 1:35. One of them was a Dragon Wagon and trailer which took about 2 months itself. For the past month I've been working on a Tiger I initial. I guess I spend on average about 8 hours a week working on them. I usually spend more time than that though researching, either online or reading books.

I know what you mean. I have a number of kits on the go but have been trying to focus on getting the ones done for the various campaigns i have joined. Sometimes I get inspired and motivate myself to product a model in a couple of weeks and other times I take months. I figure I produce 4-5 models a year but I start more than that. My inprogress shelf out does my done shelf. Nature of the beast I guess.

Since getting back into this hobby I have started 3 kits over three years. The best time of day for me to model is in the morning but there are very few mornings where I actually sit down and model. So for now, I consider myself a collector. Easy to shop online any time. Lots of kits to choice from and I don't have to worry about getting burned out on a particular subject. Buy it, receive it, look at it and put it on the shelf.

I got back into modelling almost 2 years ago. I am only doing 1/35 armor. I have completed 28 so far so that puts me at about a little over 1 per month, more in the winter months and less in the summer months.

Hi all!

Maybe it's time to speak a little bit about plane modelling!

I'm building one kit/month since two years and basically build a new one when the last is Finished. I'm rarely building two kits the same time... I guess I build around 15 hours per week. The kits are OOB.
I know some of you will hate me by saying that but... I'm a school teacher in France and I have about 4 month free per year! Not speaking that I'm not working monday afternoon, wednesday afternoon, thursday morning, the whole saturday and Sunday! I should have told you when I was at work it would have been easier! :-)
I don't have children (those at school are enough for me) and a very comprehensive girlfriend! So I have time, plenty of time!

I have the weird hope that working on several models at the same time will permit me in the log run to have on-going work ranging from just started to almost finished.

And this would then allow to "win" time by combining works of the same nature (like airbrushing).

You probably heard it before... and you can probably tell me that it doesn't really work like that...

Oh well, as long as it is fun, it is fine

Being that I do mostly Shermans I can complete a build in a weekend with a factory fresh coat of paint. Weathering and adding details and figures takes another weekend. If I am able to string 2 weekends in a row than that's 10 days to finish.

The problem is that a may finish a model in any given year, but when was it started? So, I finish 2 - 5 models a year. BUT they all were not started in the same year.

I like to take my time and even though I build mostly out of the box.. I take time to do a little scratch building and adding things that make my models unique........

anyways I've built 15 models since I started 4 years ago..

a few were quick practice peices but some came out fairly decent.....

this doesn't include 2 aborted models and 1 waiting for a paint stripping and hmm 3 that I have started at the current time

I am lucky to finish ANY model with all the different hobbies I have on my plate.
- Model Railroading (1/160)
- 1/35th Armor/AFV
- 1/24 - 1/25 Civilian
- Musician
- Re-enactor (Renaissance)
- Fencing
- Leatherwork
- Woodworking
- Drawing
- Electronics

Just so you all know, most of the above pertains to Model Railroading as it's own Artform.

Starting models is easy. Thinking of kit-bashing ideas is also just as easy. Finishing before I think ahead to the next idea...

...impossible.

But I still try.

I need ..at times..to get motivation from exterior sources......my model club ........or a campaign.....eg. MSG-Alacran ....but usually have a few running at same tjme.......... depends if I have enough info.........
Have 24 sitting in the wings (counted the other day...seen my w/bench pics )
Few are on going difficult projets...(scrath-building can take lots of time and info).......but I seem to get 5-6 a year........most --27 ..they were presentation pieces of AA kits for guys leaving units
If you make 1 or 101 a year fine ..as long as you are happy with th result ...

I really enjoyed reading everyone post on this matter and as long as your happy and enjoy what you are doing just keep doing it- I have a workbench like most with multiple works on the go, My problem is I am a profession wargame builder and painter, and usually have 4 tanks (1/72) I games workshop unit a unit of 25mm napoleonic, and some Foreign legeon to paint this month, For myself I have 2 sculpted pieces on the go, I am also a model railroader and my speciality is backdrops and I have about 300 ft of backdrop to do for friends and club, I just finished the ceiling of a friend painting pretty clouds, ut like others some days I just sit at my workbench and enjoy my models, AND that is what I am finding the best-enjoyment and I get paid to do it as well
