Just noticed something wierd about baseball. Why is the leader of the team called a Manager. The people under him are coaches as in Hitting Coach, Pitching Coach, etc.
In just about every other sport its a Head Coach with asst coaches and position coaches. In Football, US or European, the head honcho is a coach. Basketball its a coach. Hockey it's a coach.
Anyone?

Because the manager.... manages the coaches, who in turn coach the team. The manager reports directly to the owner, the coaches report to the manager. The players report to the reporters about what a rotten job the coaches and managers are doing, that's why they are batting a .130 (and making 9.5 million a year), so the owner gets to fire the manager, the new manager comes aboard, and those players now bat a .131(so next year they can now get 12 million), and everyone is happy, especially the fans, paying $7.00 for a $.99 cent hotdog, 8 for a buck and a quarter beer, and $20 for bleacher seats that use to cost me a dollar. Aw...... the American way, for the great American pass time. That's what I call excellent management..... it's no longer a sport..... it's a means of separtating the fan, from his money, as quick as possible, before he realizes he's been fleeced, or robbed, without the use of deadly force.... although I have attended a few deadly games. (deadly as is totally boring!!!!)
OK... my rant about baseball is over for this year.

Waiting for glue to dry again Alan??? :-) :-) :-)
I wouldn´t consider Alex ferguson a coach ... but a manager. He has a team under him for coaching .. "B" team, goalkeepers, etc.
Manager/head coach .. who cares??
Open a window and let some fresh air in Mr. Tong :-) :-)

Don't sugar coat it Dave, tell us how you REALLY feel. :-)
On a somewhat related sports question. Have you heard of how NFL coaches can't wear suits and ties on the sidelines? The new Forty Niners coach wants to wear a suit like his Dad did and he's told he can't. Think of the greatest NFL coaches in history, Vince Lombardy and Tom Landry possibly come to mind. Each of those gentleman were known for wearing suits, even hats, on the sidelines.
So why can't the coaches wear suits? One word, Reebok. Reebok has a contact with the NFL for all their sports apparel so the coaches have to look like walking billboards for Reebok NFL apparel.
My rant for the day.

I'm sorry but baseball is an excellent sport.
If I can't get to sleep on a hot summer night I put on a b-ball game and I'm asleep before the inning is over.

No, and thank you very much for putting that image in my mind. MY EYES, MY EYES. I may never be the same again.

Well you see I thought that perhaps that's why in baseball the head honcho is manager. However that's no different that any other team. US Football has Defensive line coaches, receiving coaches, running coaches, etc. and they all report up to the head coach, not manager.

Well it was just one of those really slow days at work because of the shortened holiday week where the rest of the company has vacation so I was surfing up sports scores and saw manager vs coach. I WISH I were sniffing glue. On days like today watching glue dry would be a treat!!
