Yes Freedom is not Free, Thank them all!
Special Thanks to my father, who was always as big as John Wayne to me!

Take one backward glance at the places they can no longer go.
And keep a place them, for their memories, and their gentle souls.
And when the thunder crashes and echoes the sounds of war.
Remember what they gave, hold them close and love them once more.

For all who served...
For all they gave....
Thank you.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. "

Used at every British ceremony of remembrance, and equally appropriate here I feel .

Or this...
"When you go home,
Speak of us & say,
For your tomorrow,
We gave our today."

From the memorial @ Imphal/Kohima.
I hope I got the text right, it's from memory.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Randall Jarrell

My sincere thanks to all that served, those that continue to serve and those that died to keep me and mine free. The family and I will be spending tomorrow morning walking through local cemeteries making sure that ever veteran has a flag.

Peace,

Shaun

Lets not forget those who are still unaccounted for, those who are missing in action whose fate only god truly knows. Lets not forget PFC Keith Maupin who is still missing in Iraq as of today. I mention him in particular because he has been completely forgotten by the media.

As we go off to our Bar-be-ques or super sales let us not forget the "reason" for the day. To remember those brave men and women who have given that last full measure of devotion and laid their lives down. Also, let us not forget the families of those who have been lost, they too deserve our respect and are to be honored.

To all those who have served, I want to say, "Thank You"

For all that have laid down their lives, my prayers and gratitude for doing what you have done.

Gods speed

I wanted to thank you and Steve for your sentiments in this thread. On this day of remembering our vets I wish to thank all of you vets in every country for your service. No matter the flag, no matter the cause.
May God bless you.. and keep you

This was over the post chapel at Fort Meade, MD. Very moving I think.

"No greater love hath a man that he lay down his life for that of a friend."
