Here's one I post with deep reservation...

Q:Two towels in an airing cupboard; which one's in the army?

A: The one on the tank.

For anyone not familiar with airing cupboards, an explanation can be found here

So in England you don't use furnaces but you have hot water heating systems? Plus you have a tank on each level?

most properties will have either gas or electric central heating systems. there will usually be one central boiler connected to the radiators in each room. either that or a seperate boiler will provide hot water to the taps in kitchens and bathrooms that run on a seperate pipe network to the heating system.

some older properties will have a boiler heated by a coal fire, but these have usually been replaced with more modern systems.

Lol...I think that description was written in 1945.

For the record most houses in the US have hot water heaters and central air/heating. Also almost all homes in the southern half of the country do NOT have basements.

But it was funny if you knew the context. :-)

Cheers,
Jim

So is this some of the "dry" British humor we have heard so much about? :-)

Sigh, I have neither central air or a basement. I guess I'm living in the dark ages.

That is a good pun though MC.

Rodger your not alone.I live in what used to be a one room schoolhouse built in 1800,there have been one or two additions along the way,but no basement and we just replaced our forty year old boiler.I guess i'm in the dark ages as well. What i would give for a basement.

So, this is funny because the guy has a firefly in his cupboard or something? I have a bunch of fireflys in my back yard in August. Or, maybe I just don't get it. Something about a british tank...

Cheers,

Shaun :-)
