it is a 72nd bird by hasegawa. i added eduard's pe on it. the black paint on the canopy represent the interior color of the frames, para pagtitingnan mo sya sa loob, kulay black sya. i also cut and dropped the flaps for more dramatic effect and add speed brake on it.

Sexy! I was able to build 2 1/72 Italeri Harriers, but their quality does not even begin to approach Hasegawa's. But then again, so does the price. :-)

Lookin real good, Kling! Ganda ng dropped flaps!

Kling's right about the black paint on the canopy. Itll save you time painting the interior, plus, the black paint will prevent the canopy from becoming translucent if you simply paint it with the body color.

Sir klinger! I have a few questions about that kit:

1. What did you do about the ugly "hot" nozzles at the back?
2. How'd you cut and drop the flaps? Did you scratchbuild the new flap or did you get a resin replacement or used the cut portion?
3. I also want to cut off the speedbrake at the bottom, but I have no idea how.

I'm almost tempted to buy a 1:72 italeri kit just to get extra parts for this one :-)

Sir latex (para tayung mga knights of the round table huh),
1. what do u mean about the ugly ''hot'' nozzles, is it about the painting? i just paint it normally but with black underpaint to have a more darker look. i also used the eduard's pe for the heat plate.
2. i cut the flap by a circular saw attached to tamiya drill. the flap consist of 2 parts, the upper part( i don't know what the name of that part) i used a thin plastic. this part usually drops when the lower part flap extends(i think...). i still used the lower part of the flap, i add sprue on the front edge of it to make it more. rounder.
3.the speed brake comes with the pe. most of the harrier when parked, flaps and speed brakes are deployed which hasegawa missed.
i just finish painting it, i will upload some pictures when i got a chance. next stop, decals.

Haha, sige na nga tama na yung "sir" Hehehehe

Yung hot nozzles is yung rotating thruster exhaust aft (the forward one looking rather like ventilation pipes). Hasegawa made an ugly rendition of that, making it have a flat face with moulded ridges rather than the appropriate, jalousy-looking exhausts.

Did you open that up or you just used what was in the kit?

ahhhh.... gets ko na. akala ko kasi tinatanung mu kung panu ko sya pininturahan. eduards includes split plate or spliter (whatever) on thier PE. i drilled it open then shaved it to accomodate the splitter. here are some new photo of my model.

hello guys. just finish applying all the decals and here is the finish product...

question?!!! the decals are made for flap which are not deployed, do the color stretched up to the insides of the flaps? (see arrows)

here are some eye candy...

question again?!!! my acount is full and i keep on erasing some of my pictures, can i post my pictures on another hosting sites then post them here?

keep on modeling...

klinger

I was able to watch the movie True Lies on cable yesterday, and browsed some photos of the harrier online. The insides of flaps when extended are a very light gray --- almost white, but very dirty and quite uneven. I suggest you keep the inside of the flaps white but diry them up generously.

That is a very cool looking Harrier. I especially like the details of the cockpit.

Guys, I also watched "True Lies" and I just fell in love with the Harrier. Fortunately, I have the old 1/48th Tamiya Harrier.

I'd like to build it but I am unsure whether this is the "Marine" Harrier that was shown in True Lies. If not, what modifications should I build to make this a "True Lies" harrier? And where can I find the decals for it?

Thank you.

This is almost the same as the True Lies Harrier except that the True Lie's Harrier's nose artwork was somewhat different. The True Lies Harrier's squadron is VMA-223, with slightly different tail markings as that of klinger's Harrier here. True Lies was made in 1994. Maybe you can research on markings of VMA-223 at that year.

that is a one big *&%$$ model!!! about true lies, i bought this model because of it. latex is correct about the numbers but almost the same with the ''true lies'' hariers. i dont know if they have chaff dispenser at the back but it was included in the PE so i just added it as well.
thanks for your comments guys.

Hey Kling, that Harrier of yours is turning out into a real gem!

Looks like you got the flap colors right. The area that is hidden as the flaps retract is in light gray. On the main flap, the light gray ends at a certain point and then its painted in gunship gray again, all the way up to the insides. We were able to see the real thing when the Tarawa made a port call.

hya buck,
so you you think my harrier flaps are correct in color and not to paint the inside anymore. what do you suggest about the weathering?

Your Harrier's lookin really good, Kling. Though from the pics the flaps are a little more drooped. As for the weathering, I know seaborne aircraft tend to become grimy because theyre usually far from shore facilities. But Ive yet to see a really dirty AV-8B. So I guess just the right amount of weathering will do.

Keep the pics coming, my friend.
