Dear Mr. Moderator, the forum thingy concept is totally alien to me. I have some questions to ask about painting and assembling of a model tank and i dont think the forum is a medium i can comprehend in its use to my problems.

I need to speak to someone. Can i have your phone number or e-mail address where i can ask away.

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Danny.

Bat22, welcome to the forum. As for your modelling questions, why not just give it try and post your questions. There many of us out here who can help you.

Since you are in KL, there is a small modelling group that assembles twice a month. I am not sure when is the next gathering but it could be this weekend.

A Big welcome aboard Danny. Nice callsign but why Bat 22 instead of Bat 21? Isn't Bat 21 the callsign for the downed pilot the SOG Seals rescued? Our Penghulu forum (Silantra) seems to be away right now.

Anyway Argrillion is right. The Amorama forum guys are very helpful irrespective of your queries and if it helps to make you more comfortable just post it here on the M'sian one. No question is too silly and none of us here pass judgement as we are all here to share and learn.

There is also one other alternative if you really need the privacy is to send any of us a private message. How's that done is under any of our posts is a little button marked "Message". Clicking on that will allow you to communicate directly with the person in the post. That message will not be viewed by anybody except the two of you.

When the person replies you will get a Private message notice when you log on to Amorama. Found next to your callsign at the top of the page where it says "Welcome back Bat22". Click on that or go to your account and you can access your private messages.

Although everyone here has modelled a bit of everything. As far as I know, both Alan here are great sources for figure painting. Haunted tank does a lot of planes and Masterqq on local ones. Silantra, Mojimbo, Valkyrie, Ave do a fair bit of AFV along with planes and subs. As for myself I'm largely into dioramas.

Hi there,

Basically, my query is related to two matters. Firstly, i would like to know where can i get my tank pro-painted and how much it would cost. Secondly, after the painting is done, can i get someone to help me assemble the tank and the cost involved.

At this juncture, do feel free to let me know if i got the sequencing wrong i.e. whether to assemble first and then paint or what other alternatives are available. The model involved is a 1/16 scale tank.

I do realize there are joys to be reaped from assembling the tank on my own but i do have constraints that prohibits my doing so. Panjang cherita laa....

By the way, where do you chaps meet up on a bi-monthly basis? is there a fixed schedule and venue for the said meeting?

Very many thanx for the Big Welcome. When i responded to Agrillion, i didnt realize you responded to my message. Btw, do i call you Beachbum or CK Tang? Why Bat 22? Saje saje...I read the feature condensation in the Readers Digest back in 1983/ 1985 on the downed pilot that was eventually rescued. The manner in which teh rescue was carried out was awesome...They finally made a movie called Bat 21 in the late 80s starring Gene Hackman. The movie was shot in Sabah. Yeah, i tried calling Silantra but he is away in JB doin some audit.

Looks like the individuals mentioned by you are specialist in their respective field in the modelling hobby. I am still keen with WWII models. Eventually, i hope to have a diaroma for my 1/16 tank.

i am quite keen to meet up with you folks to understand how i can get around to doing my tank. Cheers.

Bat22, some paint then assemble but some assemble then paint. Now that all depends how do you want to break up the sub-assemblies.

I work with sub-assemblies as it minimizes masking and prevents paint hazing.

The group meeting time and venue is not fixed but usually Saturdays noon till 1700 hours. I have yet to receive any notice for this week meeting. Will inform you once notice is received.

sub-assemblies? Masking and prevents paint hazing? Aah...you lost me there. Too technical for me. this is just to indicate how inexperience i am in this hobby.

Hence, my desire to meet up to try and understand how things are done. will await for your notification of meeting.

Danny at the top of my head there's 2 guys here that maybe able to help you with your tank as they do some commissioning work. You can send a private message to either Haunted Tank (Patrick) or Floogen (Alan). You can try your luck but last I heard they're pretty much to their armpits with commissioned work.

Bat21 was shot in Sabah but I thought it had Nick Nolte as the pilot? I read about the full rescue in a book about SEALS ops in Vietnam. If I'm not mistaken the SEAL leader got the CMH while his Vietnamese counterpart got the Navy cross. It was a first for any non-american to get a Navy cross.

Dear Mr. Tang, i will get in touch with Haunted Tank (Patrick) or Floogen (Alan) with regards the commissioning work. Many thanks for the lead. They have their hands full of commissioning work?Hmmm....i better start honing my persuasion skills.....

"I read about the full rescue in a book about SEALS ops in Vietnam. If I'm not mistaken the SEAL leader got the CMH while his Vietnamese counterpart got the Navy cross. It was a first for any non-american to get a Navy cross". My word! You are indeed precise when it comes to details. Guess i must have missed alot of detail about the full story since i only read the condensed version compared to you...The downed pilot was pretty nifty in manoeuvring around the jungle by using an imaginary golf course layout. i guess that is the only time you can consider golfing being helpful to anyone... Nick Nolte or Gene Hackman? i cant be certain though...

Guys, It was Danny Glover as the birddog pilot and Gene Hackman the downed pilot. and IIRC there was no Navy seal rescue in the movie.

Sure the penghulu mesti marah me now that he's back for dragging this topic on Bat22's "brother" Bat21.
Anyway I thought I'd mention a bit more of Bat21's story which probably didn't show up in the movie (didn't see the movie though). It would make a good dio so that's why I though it might be interesting to bring it up.

The downed pilot, Lt. Col Iceal Hambleton was the only survivor out of 6 which was in the downed RB-66 hit by SAM. The lost 11 Airmen KIA or MIA and 3 choppers (2 Hueys, 1 HH-53), 2 OV-10 Bronchos before they called MACV-SOG. They even had something like 90 bomb runs in a day to suppress NVA while Hambleton survived for days on bananas and shoots he could find.

MACV-SOG called in their SEAL assets consisting of a 5-man team lead by Lt. Norris (got the CMH). The team managed to find 2 of the downed OV-10 pilots. Lt. Norris and his LDNN (South Vietnamese frogman) counterpart, Nguyen Van Kiet even disguised themselves as fisherman to locate Hambleton. Van Kiet was awarded the US Navy's highest award, the Navy cross for his part. Probably the only non-American to get the award at that time.

Hats off to Hambleton for surviving and evading capture. Wonder what was in his mind all the time. As for Norris and Kiet, it probably was just another tough day at the office plus long overtime. Gotta admire these guys irrespective of their race or whose sides they were on.

IIRC, The movie got the RB-66 hit by SAM part right. but the rest is just Danny talking to gene in radio, and Gene actually called in the air strike on some NVA column, that is where the TUDM F-5E come into play, the final rescue is by the TUDM Nuri as the HH-53 or something and some huey from one of the Sabah firm. I remember some rocket shooting by Birddog too.

CK story sound more interesting, with SEAL and everything.

So CK, you gonna work on a dio on this one, I actually have something done half way, with a LSSC extracting some SOG with a down comrade.

Hello Silantra,

nice to hear from you. Wow, both beachbum and masterqq sure are detailed in their description of the Bat 21 rescue. I couldnt even understand some of the terms used. Guess i'm not too much of a WW2 fan that i claim to be. So, masterqq and beachbum are working on dio of some rescue operations? that should be so cool.

To be frank, I was quite desperate for some help and i came across this forum. Since i declared that i didnt know much how a forum worked, i felt it was best if i could speak to someone (on the phone) to gather some info on an urgent basis. Since i read that you were attached to DOSH, i naturally called them up and asked for you. Alas, you were away in jb and will soon be posted to another nothern region. In hindsight, guess i was perhaps too intrusive in getting your office number. My apologies. In your absence, beachbum has been very helpful in answering my queries on how to assemble and have my 1/16 rc tank propainted. I have already gotten in touch with some of the forum members on appointing them for carry out the commissioned jobs.

with regards the introduction of myself, let me try and figure out on how to sort it out. i am just getting a hang of things, i think. I must say that the forum members have been very helpful in my quest. Thank you all for the assistance rendered.
