How can I create a realistic wood effect on creates and other tools (shovels. Hammers etc.)?
i tried Humbrol #110 but it just wasnt enough.
Any help will be granted!

Ori, I use acrylics as a base color and once dry I go back over them using different colors of oil paints. You can get some really good wood effects this way. Try using a darker color over the Humbrol #110 to add some streaks (Wood grain) I would use an acrylic so as not to have the two paints blend if the first isn't fully dry. Hope this helps you. "Q"

Use an artist's oil over the Humbrol Natural Wood. Use a darker brown colour, Burnt Sienna (I think)...

Apply the oil paint liberally to the piece of "wood", and allow to dry for aout 45min, after that use an old toothbrush (or buy a cheap one from the store, as u need stiff bristles) and gently run it down the section you are "woodifying" :-) The Humbrol should now show thru the oil paint, which is your grain... and voila! Wood with grain...

Play around with using different undercoats (the Humbrol) and different overcoats (the oil) and applying different degrees of pressure to the toothbrush... as always, try this on scrap before on you final product...

Sorry if this doesn't make too much sense... only one cup o'coffee so far this morning... if you want more info about this technique PM me and I'll try make more sense... :-) :-) :-)
