Dunno, possibly its because you create something you can be happy with out of a load of preformed plastic bits. I also enjoy it (most of the time) which is the most important thing.

I just looks so cool to build a completed model from all those little bits and pieces rattling around in a box.

For me it's because of my love of history, and my desire to have a hobby that gives me some sense of creativity. I like the fact that no two models, even built OOB, are going to be exactly the same.

Mine as well as others, is a love of history. Plus, it's a way to get lost in your own thoughts, forget about the outside world, and at the end of it all, (like has also been mentioned) it's gratifying to have something (in my case) that serves as a "respectable" representation of the actual thing. (other's look just like the real thing...to which I aspire to someday.) And, to top it all off, it reminds me of happy childhood times....so, it's also a time machine.
That's why, like you, even if it's a nice day...at times you'll find me hidden away in the basement hunched over tiny bits of plastic.
As a parting shot, since I've come to Armorama the new found comradery this site provides makes the hobby that much more special.
Long winded

Hi, There's an old Nat. Am. spiritual believe that says anything that a person builds or makes into a completed whole, they put just a tad bit of their own personal spirit in it, and as long as this item remains in existance, then a part of the builder's soul, or spirit, is also present. Don't know if this is true or not, but everything I make, whether models, pictures, various Nat. Am. items I've made in the past, etc. I feel that a part of "me' is present therein. And I can look back on those items in question and remember a lot of the time what was the good points (and bad) points about them and what I learned from making them.
As far as building models, I feel that this, along with the research that I put into it for each given vehicle, gives me a little bit better idea of this time period in history and what it must have been like to have actually been involved in that era. I
It also beats throwing the money away in bars and on drugs. (Oh I still do the drugs. But now I have to get them from my doctor.)
Take care, Sgirty

I find I get around this by only working at night
That said, I 've been making models since I was 8, and I don't think I have a reasonable explanation... maybe it's just one of those reassuring things built into you, like sitting in front of an open fire or pulling on a warm jumper - something that makes you remember the good times you used to have. I think it also takes a certain mindset. People who are a little technical and a lot creative.

I guess I build models for the history and the fact that I have always needed to do something with my hands. Earlier (and still continuing) it was Lego, now models, I'm also a drummer...
It also gives me a way to put all of my ideas into a physical medium. And as it has been said, no two models are ever the same!
