Hi, very interesting vehicle. It looks like it may be on a leopard chassis. One place to mabye look is a book called "preserved german tanks 2" in it is information on a gepanzerte pioneer maschine engineer vehicle. Is it the same? I do not know. I also typed pionierpanzer into my search engine and came up with all kinds of places to search. But, I have to go to work now. Good luck on your search.

Yeah, It looks like a leopard 1 chassis to me, too. Here is a page that may help.
http://www.sfu.ca/casr/101sm-leos.htm

Reading the caption on the photo where it says "second prototype" leads me to believe maybe this thing never went into production.

Back again! As near as I could figure out, It is the second prototype for the PiPzDachs. The site www.wdpi.de/Katalog has another interesting picture of that vehicle. I suppose if I could read German, it would be easier to find information! Oh, well, Happy modeling

Your picture depicts a prototype armoured engineering vehicle based on the Leopard 1 chasis. The vehicle was called the Gepanzerte Pioniermaschine GPM-PT2.

The vehicle never made it past the prototype stage and I believe only one example was ever created. The excavator was too heavy for the chasis (it was overloaded). Also, the extreme stresses imparted on the chasis during normal operation of the excavator dictated that this design was not viable.

The Tankograd Militarfahrzeug special #5008 "Pionierpanzer der Bundeswehr 1956-Heute (Modern German Army armoured engineering vehicles)" features a number of good photographs of the vehicle as well as a set of scale drawings (in 1:72 scale). I purchased this book and found it to be quite worthwhile.

It should be noted that the picture you have included with your second post is in fact a scan from the Tankograd special.

I hope this helps.

Cheers - Dan

It would be nice to have that book! But because of all this, I just had to get a model of the 'dachs'. And of course the only one I could find in 1/35 is in resin!. Well, I guess I just work to feed my hobby(vice?). That still is one neat looking prototype though. I wish you well on your build. I, of course, will try to keep my hands of the 'dachs' when it comes until I finish the three tanks and two aircraft I am already working on(I can always hope).

Barv, I wish you all the luck in the world to find somebody that can speak and read German, to help you find the necessary things you need, for I think this is going to be like everything else I tried to find that was German, the answer could be setting right in front of me, and I wouldn't know it, cause of the language barrier, of not knowing which book to purchase.

Isn't there some way to type or scan the words into WORD and have that program translate? Where are my children when you need them?

capnjock, where, or shall I say how, did you find that good picture of it digging a hole at, I spent a couple days, and only found it's cousins, I never could find it anywhere.

I always wondered how it opened up, and now I know, I seen the bucket there in the middle.

straightedge, did I ever say 'I need to get a life' ? The world wide web is a wonderful place IF you don't not getting enough sleep, not working on models, etc I basically just seached has many pages with as many variations as I could. You are right though, that is one really neat looking device. I can't wait to see barv's build!
