Hi Guys,

I ran out Bare Metal Foil to use as a mask, but I have a bottle of micro mask. I've never used this stuff and was wondering what I should expect. Has anyone used it before and does it work well?

I just wanted to know before I hit the model with the paint.

The one time I've used "Micro Mask" I had a real tough time getting it off. Maybe I didn't use a thick enough layer or what but I was not impressed with it. So I v'e gone back to tape and also "Tac'n Stik" (the stuff for attaching paper to walls), both are fairly successful for me.

ps: The bare metal foil sound interesting...might be in this modellers future.

Steve,

It's been awhile since I've used it for masking, but if memory serves me, it's water soluble. I believe I used it for some wheels on a truck and removed it with a soft brush under luke warm water.

I don't know if that would work for your application or not. I suppose it would depend on what your painting. You might try it on some scrap first.

I have never used micro mask but i use a liquid latex mold builder i think its pretty much the same when you use it put at least 2 coats on or its hard to remove also if you are using it on clear parts try it on a piece of scrap to make shore it doesn't fog the clear parts. good luck

Oh it's great for masking a canopy! It conforms to all shapes and you can get it into those tight spots.
Just hit the clear plastic surface with some Novus and apply and burnish with a flat toothpick then trim with a new X-acto blade. After removal use some Novus cleaner to remove residual adhesive.

By the way, I'm working on the Glenco Mars Liner and I'm masking the windows on the bridge. (And the subs too Darryl! :-) )

Thanks guys for the input

Steven, I hate to show my inexperience, but what is "Novus". You have me very curious about the foil method of masking
