Hi guys, it's been a while. Glad to see the site has gone from strength to strength!

Ok, right now I'm looking at my 1/72nd Revell U-Boot and it looks like it's been caught in a snow shower. I used Tamiya acrylic flat base, which I thinned a tad with surgical spirit (alcohol basically). As I remember the white is supposed to fade away, leaving a clear coat of matt 'varnish'. Er...how long is it supposed to take? Because I have a feeling it's going to stay white.

Anyone else had this happen? And what did you do about it?

The 'Flat Base' is actually supposed to be mixed with paints to make them a dead matt finish, it's not a 'stand alone' varnish - I made the same mistake myself on a truck and had to repaint the whole thing from scratch.

Ah. Bugger. Cheers Dave.

I found most of it could be dusted off, though it's left traces, mostly around raised detail. No great harm done, it went over the rust undercoat.

Does anyone know of a spray-on acrylic matt varnish?

Siggi,

Mix some of that Flat Base with Future (or your continental equivalent) for a flat coat.

Thanks Mika, I've already used an enamel based varnish from a can. It's supposed to be matt, but right now it looks satin. I have it on the radiator to help the drying time, maybe then it'll go matt.

The guy in the shop swears a white-spirit based wash won't disturb it. Is he talking bollocks?
