ok I've been reading about what de-motivates us now. I would like to hear what there is about the model building process that motivates others...
I think this will be a very interesting topic...
I'm always motivated to build something but sometimes there is that extra that keeps you going on a project...
For me its Positive feedback on my work and in progress photo's be it on the forums on people I know.
also when something turns out just right then i'm ready to tackle the next part....

Dihydrocodeine. I take it for a trapped nerve in my shoulder I've had for years, but strangely I never feel like modelling when I don't take any? Added to this is the pleasure one gets from finally finishing and getting other people to see it. I'm not in any clubs, so if it wasn't for the internet I think we would all know a lot less and be a lot less motivated. Thanks Armorama!

Depends what the model is...
might be the sheer joy of finishing it
OR
the sheer relief of finishing it

The prospects of learning something new through the research before and during the build. Funnily enough this is a double edged sword for me, because while motivating me, it also demotivates me...

I wonder if there is some way to link these two threads together.. I just posted to the "what demotivates.." thread too..
For me it's a couple of things.
Seeing other people's work makes me more motivated, but also demotivates me sometimes as well..
Group builds/campaigns/club in-house contests are fun, but it's got to be the right subject.
Making progress on a kit is a huge motivator.
Finishing a kit more so!
Big shows coming up are a motivator, but I'm terrible at time management for getting the 'big project' done for the next big show.
Surprisingly to me, who hugely enjoys taking the shrink wrap off, opening a new kit is not the biggest motivator...

What motivates me the most is looking at other people's models

Normally, seeing something in real life is a motivator. All though you get numb to it when you pass by a half dozen display vehicles on your one mile drive drive to work.
Also at my last job where I had literally a hundred pieces of modern armor sitting outside my window. I never felt the desire to build a kit of something I had ample references for.
Walking through the Patton Museum usually motivates me to crack open a more esoteric kit. Especially the WW1 armor and early US armor.

What motivates me...
The work of others... and indeed seeing progress in your model. Seeing someone else's work is a double edged sword..
O yeah... and when I need a break from study... and need something else to do (study evading behaviour).

Hmmmm...been meaning to post on the DE-motivate topic, but will opt for the positive topic first.
In all seriousness, the Number One motivator for me has been, and continues to be, Armorama. If I had not found this site and started reading and posting (not a lot I know), etc. I am sure I would not have done anything! Because of this site I finished my first kit in almost 20 years and have many (a common, and old trait) kits underway!
Specifically Campaigns are the main push, followed by seeing all of the great work done by the Armorama community and just the quality of people on this site. I've been "online" for many years and have never, ever, seen a site with the civility of this one! A real testimony to the poeple here!
Now...I need that extra push to find the time to build!

Motivation? For me it has to be going to the shows meeting with other modelers and seeing their work.

So many…
Learning something new.
Trying something new and actually having it work. LOL
Looking at others work and trying to get to their level.
Showing the work I’ve and getting a response from people who know and appreciate the effort.

What motivates me...the hobby it's self. Armorama helps me keep motivated as well, finishing a kit and showing it to the many members from far and wide makes it pleasurable.

I am also motivated by the Hobby itself and the Piece of mind i have when modelling. After entering Armorama i enjoy a lot getting my work criticised by good modellers all over the world.

Let's see......
Actually very simple
The end result I have in mind......that's what motivates.
That's during the build.
Motivation before the build comes from inspiration out of books, movies, games, stories etc.

Lot's of things. Feedback from finishing a kit or showing the work in progress and getting feedback along the way. Sometimes I will be motivated by movies or video games. For example, if it wasn't for the Gran Turismo game series, my model car collection would not be nearly the size it is. That and I would not be as big a fan of WRC rally racing.
