You had me fooled with the first pic, I thought that was a real one...

:-) .
That is a fine looking machine, nice to see something different. As for ideas, maybe a small dio, with the digger used to dig a trench or tanktrap? Would need a bit more mud though
Maybe a soldier with a paper and a toilet roll, shouting at the driver 'hurry up with that latrine' ?

:-) :-) .
Cheers

Good looking model Steve.
Dio or base? I think it would look good in a dio. Putting that big shovel into use.

Three weeks huh - I dunno....
You've done a great job on it to this point. My thoughts are that to put this in a diorama you're going to have to really dirty it up and add a lot of dirt and gunk all over the suspension and bucket. If you only have a limited amount of time you may run into a problem or not like the results and you'd be hard pressed to 'fix' it in time.
My personal idea on a diorama would include a couple of figures and some extensive ground work. Time time time....
So I would make a small ovalish base with some grass very similar to what its on now. I'd add a lot of pastels to the grass to tone it down. I'd go with an oval to reduce the amount of 'dead' space and let the viewer focus on the vehicle and not much else.

Hey Barv i'm with the rest..dio man dio. I can see that machine digging a hole with a pile of dirt next to it. Some hand tools laying around..yeah bro, dio.
Great job man that really came out great, good luck on what ever you decide
Edit: have your figures looking in the hole as they found a gas line or something.
It feels like bible camp…Only I’m not crying pretending I’m somewhere else.
Happy Modeling

Or even run as fast as they can... I would run like hell if a digger hit a gas pipe.
Good thinking though, what about a bomb?

A small Dio of the crew after cleaning the machine. It could have some mud and dirt around and the crew could be the dirty ones. After all we all had to clean our equipment. Could make for a different type of scene. You could use the existing base that you have used for the photos so far and enhance it. I love this piece of equipment!

Steve, now that latrine idea may not sound like to bad of an idea, you could have one guy with a measuring stick to stab the hole to tell when they got it deep enough. say a pole a little longer then the mans height with lines on it, that he could be holding.
Then just have one or 2 buckets worth taken out of the hole, and then to add to the realism you could have a double out house ready to slide over the hole when they get it finished, probably a couple more men with shovels to trim up the hole, cause I never seen a perfect backhoe operator dig a hole that didn't need a little shovel work.
This is 2 votes for the latrine idea, just maybe a little different way, but mine will take 3 standing figures of course 2 could be setting they don't matter, cause only one will be working then scratch an outhouse, which that will be easy. a lot easier then what you done so far.

....C@@P------"cludgies-"-----I have never ,in all my years of service , had a "thunder-head" dug for me by a mech shovel

, Must be a modern tech thing

---more insulting ,..by an engineers tank.

,ah me , and I thought it was a reasonable attempt......

(consults manual of field hygine)----nothing to say it can't be done

I didn't think you would have room to dig a ten mile long power line, even scaled down, the only way to make it look real, it would haft to be awful long. But I guess you got the room, you can do what you want.
I thought that would look neat, with the outhouse, but I guess what is one mans treasure, is another mans junk. Steve I pray you don't haft to see the importance of this function of your life to the severity that I have, as you get older priorities change. I remember in trucking, I would park some place close to eat, but as I got older, the only thing that mattered was, if they had facilities close, I could always put off eating, but when mother nature calls when you get older, you listen, or pay.
Remember the joke about the [auto-censored], that wanted to be boss, I'll pray that never happens, cause that joke is true, and it gets a lot worse then that.

I like the idea of the outhouse, but I would put a General standing next to it with a roll of TP waiting to use it. :-)

Barv, great looking build. I agree with a dio, BUT, if you have a show in just under 3 weeks, I would go for a base at this point, then build the dio after the show. Would hate to see things go bad due to hurrying to make a dead line. Just my thoughts. Once again, nice build. "Q"
