Here's a question for someone with a better memory than mine. (I'm suffering from CRAFT)

What modifications have to be made to the AFV M38A1C w/ 106 recoilless to allow it to depict one of those belonging to CF in the 60's and 70's?

Thanks

Dave

I don't think you need to make any mods. Just add CFR plates and tacsigns. those in Canada woul;d have had Mobile Command insignia as well.

Thanks Paul. That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. They were just arriving at my militia unit when I went RF so I don't remember them too well. Rarely saw them afterwards...armoured defence didn't like snipers and vice versa.

Gee that must have been about 1992 (lol). I remember seeing one at Fort Yotk about 1979 and actually saw it fire at Petawawa in the same year. No photos though. there is a shot of a jeep in Das Ahornblatt In Germany (the maple Leaf in Germany) on page 19. Its identified as an M38. However the CFR number indicates 1951 as the year of munifacture so i would think it was a late Willy's. I'm sure we can generate some discussion on this one.

Actually, it was around 1976 at the armories in Kingston. I did fire a few in Ipperwash later that year in a firepower demo.

I'm trying to put the finishing touches on my 106, and I seem to recall a couple of hoses/cables running from the traverse and elevation mechanism to somewhere else on the gun. Anyone have any info on these. My failing memory tells me they were for the firing mechanism of the spotting rifle and the main tube.

You are correct about the cables. One ran from the 106 breech and another from the 50 spotting rifle to the centre knob ont eh elevation wheel. Pull out the 50 fires, push and the 106 fires. I remember doing a night shoot in Gagetown and after the 106 had fired I could hear the gunner cursing. By the light of the flares I could see the firing mech of the 50 hanging by its firing cable. The guns were pretty worn out and took a lot of special care to put rounds on target!!
