Yup, it makes the paint adhere better to the surface
also, it hides the putty makeing it not show.

I don't put primer any of my models except for 1/25 car models.

I always do, use auto low cost primer, high “bite” for the finish paint to stick to.

Always.Just removes all doubt about adhesion.Makes any mold seams or surface defects easier to see.
