I was wondering if a tank regiment in WW2 would have any infantry attached to it who are part of the same reg or would they always be from an infantry regiment.
They are always from an infantry regiment. There were no combat infantry integral to the armoured regiments. If the armoured unit is part of one of the armoured divisions, the accompanying infantry are usually from the division's motorised regiment. The infantry from the infantry brigade were generally used to break open the hole that the motorised regiment and the armoured regiments poured through (that was the plan, anyway). For corps level tank regiments (like the Ontarios) they were used to support regular infantry division regiments in their assaults, a subtly different activity.
The motorised regiments were meant to support the armour and protect it during the armour's attack. The army tank brigade regiments were meant to support the infantry in the infantry's attack.
