How is it, that you can build a work bench almost as wide as the room you're in and still be reduced to working on a one square foot surface at the very edge of the bench?

I have the exact opposite. I dedicated a room for hobbies and only use a small corner of the room so far. I guess that's the benefits of my self imposed restriction of 5 kits in the stash maximum. In addition except for the stash, I am completely mobile. Paints, tools, brushes, cutting tools, etc all fit nice and neatly into my tool chest which is one of those big huge red rolling mechanic's chests. When not in use everything goes into the chest and rolled into the corner.

I'm with ya. Not only am I being crowded out but also pushed to one end. I started in the middle of my new huge bench, 4x8 feet, and am now down to about 2x2 at the very right hand end.

Odd.

Don't you folks know that any stuff you own, store, or work with, expands to fill the space available? We remodeled out kitchen last year and have probably twice as much storage space as we had before. It's still crammed though. I think somebody comes in at night and fills it up while we sleep.
