Thanks to Staff Jim for helping to make today at SCAHMS a good one. It was nice to meet him and Jim even had badges for those who he knew were coming.
I had never been to SCAHMS before, although I have been to the MFCA show in Philadelphia and a World Expo show in Scotland. I thought there would be more vendors and a few more exhibitors, but maybe the exhibitor count was down due to people saving up for the World Expo in Boston in a few months.
It was also great to meet Gino (Heavy Arty) and chat awhile. He had an interesting display of a variety of items.
I tried to fit too much in a day, and I went to Huntington Beach to meet friends for lunch. Big mistake as I am unfamiliar with the traffic conditions in this area. How do you people that live around here handle this? I guess now I know why all that road rage happens here. So, I missed the awards ceremony and it took me quite awhile to find someone who at least knew I won a medal, but nobody could tell me for what! UGGHH!
And I even sold a couple of pieces to a collector to boot.
Maybe someone who was at the ceremony remembers my name being called (Robert Burik) and knows what it was for?

Can't help you on the award info, but glad you had a good time, and congrats on the award. Hopefully when you find out, you'll posts some photos of it, so we can all see it.

Maybe the same thing happened to you that happened to me a few years back. I paid to enter a model (about 3 times as much as the other contest I have gone to) and it didn't even get judged. They anounced to the croud that if you wanted to know how you did to come up and they would let you know. I was one of the first 20 to check in so I know I was not to late. The person told me there was no record of the model being judged. When I asked about getting me entrance fee back he ignored me and started talking to others as if I didn't exist. I did get to see some incredible figures but because of the experience above and a few other things I won't get into it was my last trip there.

Bob,
I *think* it was either a pewter or bronze award but don't hold me too that. Nice entries too! I have some good photos of them.
I sympathize on the traffic scenario. As a rule of thumb if you are driving anywhere near LA, add about 30-60 minutes onto how long you normally think it will take you.
I took the 57 and then the 210 to get back to the 5 on the way north to Fresno. It took about as long as just taking the 5 straight up, but only 2 brief traffic jams.
Cheers,
Jim

What traders were present? More importantly, did they have any snippets about new releases?..Jim

Jim:
Looking forward to your photos of the show (including mine, since I forgot to photograph my own stuff, and I sold two pieces, never to be seen again!!).
I did get a pewter medal and someone from the show is supposed to email me what it was for, but I am not holding my breath. With all of the excitement of the show packing up at the end of the day, I think my request will get lost. We shall see.

Only Monroe Perdu was there in terms of actual manufacturers. The rest were hobby stores and a painter. So not really much on the news front. I did get some images of MP's new releases though. I will try to remember to publish those seperately as a news item.
So much to do...so little time.

Bob...congrats on the pewter. I was actually surprised by your work that you were in the general area. Who decides that? The modeler or the entry folks?

I agree, thanks to Armorama for being there. I had a great time hanging out at you table, looking forward to seeing more pics as I was only able ot take a couple. The show was as good as ever if a tad small due to WE in July. Now back the workbench!

Jim:
Yes, as Harrison mentions, it was my decision. I like my work, but I am a realist. I don't think it is up to the standards of the advanced modelers. Also, my understanding is that if the judges feel it is of advanced status, they would move a piece, or the entire display up.
Of course this is all subjective, and sometimes I feel that I should enter my stuff in the advanced category (I have been to three shows like this now) and I think next time I will, as I feel my skills are a little better now.
You all can let me know when I show my next project off ( OIF1 Abrams in a dio going under a highway overpass).
