In one of the longest stretching insurgency war (in some peoples mind revolutionary war) ever fought there was one unit which distinguished it self in countless firefights against a well equiped enemy.

The war is know as the Border War and the unit was Koevoet. Covert War is a book about their numerous exploits on and of the field of battle, their truimphs and tribulations.

It is well written focusing on some of the famous characters that served in Koevoet and gives detailed accounts of their many actions. It is a daunting task to keep up as the nartive jumps from one battle into the next within a few lines.

One is confronted by the feelings of those present in the chase from the moment the tracks are first found until, in most cases, it ends in a bloody contact, and in other cases in a dissapointing loss of the quarry.

For those looking for an overview of the war, this is not the book as it focusses on Koevoet. Thus the broader war is only discussed were it touched the unit.

The only downside I have is that there are alot of spelling mistakes in the book , Something which should not happen with a book of its price (R250 in most bookstrores).

Apart from this it is good book and a must for those interested in one of the most milagned and misunderstood units of the war.

Hi Vorster

Thanks for the review. It is appreciated.

Not to discourage you, but in future please submit reviews via the "Submit your review page. Also please have a look at Armorama's Review Guidelines. I'll admit that at times the guidelines seem pretty harsh but they are there to set a certain standard and to prevent the one line type reviews (and trust me, before Jim implemented these guidelines there were a few of these - see Jim's comments regarding these ).
If you're unsure about anything regarding reviews, please post your question in the Site Talk Forum , and Jim or any of the other editors will answer you question asap.

Let me reiterate, I am not trying to discourage you from submitting reviews, in fact I welcome them.
Once again, thanks for the review.

Rudi

EDIT: Also, if you want to share the review with a wider audience and ensure the longevity of the review, it is best to place it in the reviews section - whereas posts can essentially be deleted, product reviews are generally here to stay. I would definitely go for this option, as we are trying to share our history with the rest of the modellling community.
