Yes, texturize the object with some putty or such and then paint it with a rust color. Be careful though, because you might over due it and that is very easy. Only do this if your doing a burnt out tank or somthing thats been burt. If youd like rusted rain streaks just buy some rust colored paint, thin it out and then paint streaks where youd like. Good luck!

You can use actual rust. Find a rusty object, scrape some of the rust off and collect the powder. Mix the powder with a liitle bit of water to make a runny paste. Simply paint the rust paint on and let dry. Seal it with dullcoat to finish. You can get different effects by varying the consistency of your paste. Thinner and it can be used as a wash. Thicker and it can simulate heavily rusted and crumbling iron.

I got a product from a craft store that creates instant rust. It comes with 2 bottles, the first is a liquid with super fine bits of metal in it and the second is a liquid chemical that causes it to rust in minutes. f you are not careful it can start to get to bumpy for 1/35 but other than that it works well. One nice thing about it to is you can put on several different coats of the chemical that causes rust so that some areas have a very light rust and some are much heavier creating a much more realistic look in my opinion.

Micro-Mark also sells a product called rust all that works pretty well. Make sure you seal any real rust products or they will continue to rust if there is enough humidity in the air!

I use the Rust All product that I get from Micro Mark. I start with a coat of Model Master rust paint. While the paint is still wet I sprinkle the fine dirt that comes with rust all. When dry I coat it with layers of the liquid rust in as many coats till I get the results that I want. I shift the sand through a very fine sifter so I have a almost talcum powder substance. Depending on how much of the powder I use will determine how flaky the finish will come out. When satisfied I will clear coat it with MM flat.

I forgot to insert a photo of the end result of the rust all process. By the way you can purchase this produt at Discount models, Squadron and other hobby stores besides Micro Mark. I prefer Micro Mark for the fast service I get from them.
