Hi All
I am a 23 year old SA modeler who build mostly armor and some aircraft used by the IDF.
When I am not modelling I try to do my masters degree in mechanical engineering and read all types of modern history.

Howdy Mr. Theunis Vorster,
A warm welcome to our wee community. You'll find nothing but helpful folk here, supportive and friendly (like it should be ).
You say you build IDF vehicles, have you ever built an SA vehicle? I know it would require some scratching, but there are some very interesting vehicles produced there.
Actually, didn't the U.S. just recently agree to purchase a number of jeep-like vehicles from SA?

Hi
On the first question no. Not much in the way of models available. The only ones are in 1/72 and horrendously expensive not even to mention the few 1/35 scales. To give you an Idea: a 1/35 scale resin kit goes for $85 that is about R510 rand, 13% of my salary.
As a student/trainee engineer I don't earn much from the University (I am studing my M.Eng and get a small salary for the work I do here - mainly energy mamagement stuff).
On the second question. Yes you did buy some of our equipment. The RG 31 is an decendand of the famous Casspir (well famous over here). It can take the pounding of a 25 kg charge from below and the crew will survive. Amazing stuff that angled blast chassis.

Hi Delbert
That is very true. Those shermans were modified into countless different versions from a live firing training vehicle (monster) to those amazing m51s with the 105 mm guns which took on T62s in the Yom Kippur war.
Go have a look at www.israeli-weapons.com they have a whole set of pages just dedicated to the sherman.
