Hi all
A bit of interesting info. We have a guy here in the Club with us who sells amazingly cheap kits. Try this on for size: Trumpeter Hind D for R450, Trumpeter Ships (1/350) starting at R190.
One of our guys bought the whole ship series. If you want in give me a shout at [email protected].
Further more we regularly import stuff from Sqaudron in the States. If we send out a large order it gets cheaper on the postage. We will be sending out a n order soon so let me know if your interested.

Hi Vorster,
This may just be a typo, but I'm curious as to the Trumpeter Hind D and it's pricing.
The only Trumpeter Hind D I find is a 1/48 kit (as per the Trumpeter site), and shouldn't cost more than about R50 - I am using Hobbyeasy as a pricing reference.
Does your supplier perhaps refer to the 1/35 Hind E? Which is more the sort of price range (okay, a bit less but I guess the guy has a make a profit somehow :-) ) to which you refer...

Hi
Sorry, my mistake. It is the 1/35 scale Hind E. In the hobby shops up here they cost about R900 so it is a massive bargain for us. If your interested there are only two left.

Thanks, but aircraft aren't really my main focus at the moment.
R900 is pretty steep for that kit. BTW, that kit goes for about R307.40 on Hobbyeasy (depending on the day's exchange rate), and postage on it can't be more than R100...
but this is exactly why I am slowly stopping support for LHS's and local suppliers. Another example is the Tamiya paint stand (the turntable one). At my LHS it goes for R186, at Jeffrey Stein it goes for R160 in their "factory shop"... I can get it off Hobbyeasy for about R85, include another kit, and the postage for the 2 items is only about R50...

Hi
Please send me the url of Hobbyease post hast. You will make alot of Potchefstromers very happy. So happy in fact they may kiss your feet.
We are hosting a big hobby convention on from the 29th of April to the 1st of May. There will be workshops and presentations, I will personally give one on basic aerodynamics. (I finally got my degree in Engineering yesterday - best 2 minutes of my life. Guess my Masters ceremony will be beter.) If you could attend it would be great.

I saw those details on the IPMS Vaal Triangle website. I'll post it as a forthcoming event for you.
I won't be able to make it:(, but I', sure the other guys in the area will try make it out there.

Hobbyeasy
You can also have a look at LuckyModel .
These are both Hong Kong based companies. Have a look in the forums to see various modellers feedback regarding these companies.

Had a look at Hobbyeasy: Nice looking prices, and I really like the feature that lets you view the price in rands (gives me a warm fuzzy feeling
)
I got mine at the end of last year - great feeling to be finished, although after all that hard work you feel your degree certificate should be gold-plated or something...
Cheers

Yeah, Ed, that is a great feature. In fact it's one of the reasons I prefer Hobbyeasy to Luckymodel. That and the speed at which the 2 sites load, as the prices are pretty similar.
Just remember though, that is a rough guide based on, I'm guessing, the Reuters exchange for the day. You still get billed in Hong Kong dollars and at your bank's exchange rate for the day.

I should think that this alone is testimony to the benefits of joining Armorama. Tell him I expect to see him in the new recruits lists before the end of the week. LOL :-) :-) :-)

I've got a dedicated line at work so I'm pretty much online all day, but as I suffer from a condition know Armoramalitus I have to get a dose of Armorama before going to bed
:-) :-) Unfortunately I am also subjected to the crappy modem issue on Telkom's crappy infrastructure
, but I've gotta say, Jim has structured the site in such a way that if working off a slow connection the site still loads relatively quickly.

It seems to work the same with me. If I am not working on some mindless excel spreadsheet, pouring over badly written (some ppls handwriting just suck) logsheets or reading boring technical reports (the things I have to do to earn my pay) I am at the forum chatting away.

Speaking of Luckymodel and Hobbyeasy, I've ordered from both of them....
I must say for me Luckymodel wins just by a nose, for the following reasons:
1. Quick shipment. My order, once shipped, arrived in less than two weeks.
2. Packaging, Luckymodel packs each individual kit box in bubble wrap.
3. Fast email response.
4. Their 'low-value invoice' option. Last order I only had to pay fifty bucks for VAT and duties.
5. You get a scan of the post office receipt - so you never get overcharged for shipping.
It may be a good idea to do a group buy in the future to save on shipping, if anyone in GP is interested?
I may be making another order soon. Gosh my stash is growing.
