I was telling the gf about the film of Dukes of Hazzard last night, and we started talking about a 'what if?' remake of the Prisoner series from the sixties. The upshot was 'who would play Number Six?' originally played by Patrick McGoohan.
My suggestions were Johnny Depp or Russell Crowe, whilst she thought perhaps Pierce Brosnan or Ewan McGregor, although she would prefer Hugh Jackman (she didn't specify if that was for the film or just generally!)

What does anybody else think?

I care, but I somehow don't see the movie getting any real attention from the masses as it were. My vote would have to be Ralph Fiennes OR Colin Firth - for what it is worth...

Yes I suppose. Shame really, but on the other hand, the chances are that it might be given a Mission Implausible style makeover, completely destroying the 'charm and mystique'.

How disappointing... I thought everybody would be as excited by the topic as we were

Maybe it was the wine then...

After suffering through the remade Flight of the Phoenix on DVD, the last thing I want to see is another remake.

Prisoner wasn't so hot to begin with but I think it would be great if Michael Jackson could take on the lead role. His creepiness would fit right in with the premise of Prisoner.

Boy that Phoenix remake proves how good the original was.

Nah, don't do a remake, just re-run the original.
Nothing could match it.

As for the new flight of the pheonix, I saw a short trailer, that was enough for me !!!

Can anyone think of a remake that was better than the original??

I can't think of any, and am dreading the remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, unless it is completely faithful to the book and exists a s a different film...
I too would not put much money on a remake of The Prisoner, or expect much of it (eg Get Carter and The Italian Job).
No, spent the weekend trying and can't think of any...

You could add Alphie to those two remakes.

How could anyone think they could better Micheal Caine.
Definately not Jude Law, what a

Seems like nobody can come up with good new films so they have to nick the old ones.

I think the films that Christopher Guest does- usually with Michael McKean- always manage to entertain, even if it sometimes seems that they are just remakes of This is Spinal Tap, the original Rockumentary. Check out Best in Show- a 'dogumentary', if you will, and A Mighty Wind- a 'folkumentary'. Also worth a view is Waiting for Guffman.
A Mighty Wind

Hang on a minute- Christopher Guest doing the Prisoner...

I remember watching the Prisoner back in the 70's. It started out wonderful, but got weirder and weirder and eventually the ending came and it was awful....awful stupid that is. I wouldn't waste my time seeing the original again let alone a remake.

As to Sniper's poll. I found one.....as much as I love John Wayne, I think the Alamo that came out last year is far superior to his version.
