I use whatever is going around - plaster of paris, drywall putty, shaped blocks of foam - you name it. I also sift small sand and gravel from the gutter. I also have 2 different colours of "railway" grass (actually dyed sawdust) and a couple of cheap wallpaper brushes to use as grass. (I haven't used the latter yet but intend to soon - the effect looks good in the dios on this site).

For the plaster and the putty I usually add some brown acrylic paint to the initial mix so that if it chips there are no glaring white spots.

I am sure that the others here will have other ideas. I know lestweforget is into dios and has done more than I have.

If you see good ideas from USA or Europe the best thing is to go to a hardware store and see if you can find ther Ozzie equivalent.

Have fun

Get your hands on some instant paper mache.

You may have heard overseas modellers call it Celluclay.

In Oz there is a similar product called Mix-It.
All you do is mix with water, spread on your base and shape however you want. As you mix you can throw in paint to colour as well. After that spread on PVA and turf etc etc.

Very easy to clean up too.

Takes a good day to dry in the sun or in front of a fan.

Cheers
Glen

cheaper to get a pkt of wallpaper glue and make your own Paper Mashe.

tear old newspaper up and soak in hot water for about an hour. Put this through a blender (if SWMBO will let you) and then just keep wet enough for the wall paper glue to mix well with it.
