I picked up this nifty little set of paastel chalks in my local art and craft shop yesterday. 12 sticks, in all the colors you would want or need for £ 4.99. They powder nice with some sandpaper, and a quick test application shows it to give a nice hue of dust on OD.. I'll post pic's when I've tried them properly.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome Henk,

I'm down near Plymouth so I shall have to have a look. I have some similar packaged Chinese oil paints that were dirt cheap. I just can't see the point in paying Windsor and Newton prices for something that you'll dilute umpteen times for washes. Keep the good stuff for figures where it matters

For those of us across the pond, I bought the same set at Hobby Lobby for less than ten bucks. Good set.

Yep, that's where I got mine also, Hobby Lobby. On a half price sale of course.

Hoovie, have you tried Michaels? Do they still have Ben Franklin out there? I'd bet any good art supply store would have them.

Just thought i'd thow in a bone here... the local michales and A.C. Moore craft stores here almost always have an endcap with the "cheaper" end of art supplies on sale or clearance.. just the other day I was thinking of getting a box of pastel chalks think it was a set of 36 marked at $5.. but thought i'd wait a bit and see if they got cheaper.. (not that I really need them)..

they also sell cheap artist oils, artist acrylics, and artist watercolors that way (all in the tubes..).. the oils are cheap and prob not worth it.. but I've got some nice results using the artist watercolors as washs.. ( and the best thing is if you don't like it you can remove it fairly easy without damageing the paint under it..
