I've been browsing thrugh my unbuild stack (deciding what to do next), and noted that I have some kits in multiples (2 or more), so I'm wondering what's your average situation? A lot of multiples, or almost none? Or like me, just the subjects you really like?

Cheers,

I just have one multiple set of two dragon sherman fireflys for some dios. That is it. Maybe when I am richer and have more room to display more models.

I only build a model (type) once, so unless somebody asks me to built a specific model I wouldn't buy it twice.
Only exeption would be figures, to go with a vehicle.

Only 1 multiple....quad w/ 25 pdr. I bought one and then SWMBO got me one for Xmas - said it was the only Canadian model she could find. In her favour though, she DID get me a compressor, dremel and 2 other kits.

I've got multiples, usually of favorite kits or one that are slated for multiple dioramas or some such thing like that.

I've got a few multiples. Once because I forgot what I had, once because I got a two for one trade, but mostly because they are kits that I can always use. Tamiya's M4A3, Jeep, Allied Accessories kit, Sign post kit are all kits I know I can use in a number of different ways. I keep one of each unopened so if I need to I can trade.

I do keep a Excel spreadsheet of kits I own, how much I paid for them, where I got them, etc. I also have on the list kits I hope to someday get, the lowest price I've seen them at, and where. That way if I run across a deal I'll know if it's a real deal or not.

At most I'll buy a kit twice, one to build and the other to save..funny thing is I seem to never get around to build that second kit :-)

I have a few duplicates of kits. Mostly kits I intend to use in dios or different varients. I have built 3 Tamiya T34s lol all done differently.

I find that with my Armor and Warships I only buy and build one of each type. But with aircraft I have several multibles. This being natural for example, I like F-4J Phantoms and A-4 Skyhawks. With all the after market decals out there it is easy to build these same models with several different schemes and markings! But for a M4a3 Sherman or a USS Arizona there are not many other choices. Plus building in land, sea and air, my life time is not long enough to build to many multibles! :-) :-)

Cheers,

Garry

One duplicate by mistake (did not have my Excel list with me) and one duplicate to get parts from to replace a massive gluing mistake/misallignment. Too many kits out there to pick from to spend too much on duplicates.

While I try to build "new" model experiences, there are some that were just so fun building the first time that I buy them again (Tamiya Panzer III comes to mind)... besides, I never know when a customer might want a specific model in a given project.... if it is on sale, I may buy three or four of the more popular kits (ie, Tiger I, T34, Panzer IV, or Sherman Easy .... how can I resist?

i will also buy duplicates to add to my spare-parts box... a Tamiya Sherman has a lot of parts that make wonderful "debris" in a diorama.... same for the T-34 or Panzer series.

I have bunches of multiples, mostly do to the limited selection of kits at the local Hobby Lobby. Have started to build one OOB and order AM stuff for the second one. Sort of helps me uncover any problems with the base kit before I throw the wallet at it with the AM stuff.

How can I build just one T-34 or Sherman

At the moment I am exploring the huge world of French WWII tanks (slight exaggeration) and have:

1 Trumpeter Hotchkiss 35/38 (sporting a somewhat bogus combination of features OOB, which'll need sorting out)

1 Trumpeter Hotchkiss 39 (with some different problems)

3 Heller Renault 35s

3 Heller Hotchkiss H35/39 (better in some ways than the new Trumpeter)

Not sure what to do with the 4 25mm ATguns though

I generally buy multiples when a kit will build more than one version and I am interested in the different variants. For example, the Revell 1/72 scale Bradley builds into either an M2A2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle or M3A2 Cavalry Fighting Vehicle.

Then Legends developed an OIF detail set. I bought a third so I could do an OIF version of the Bradleys (actually waiting for an A3 update set to come down the road).

I bought several Revell M1A1HA Abrams tanks. I planned on kitbashing one with an Esci/Italeri M1 to produce and M1IP. I wanted to kitbash another with the Dragon M1A2 to make a better M1A2, but now Revell is coming out with a 1/72 scale M1A2. Others I bought to try out the various PE sets available for the different kits (ExtraTech, Eduard).

I've bought three Elefant tank destroyers. I like the vehicle and I did a lousy job on the first one (Dragon Elefant) so I bought the Trumpeter Elefant. It is supposed to be better. Then Dragon re-tooled the Elefant so I bought it as well. Not truly duplicates here.

I've also bought several of the old Esci M60, M48 and M113 series 1/72 scale kits. Some in multiples, others are basically identical except for decals. I've bought them for convsersions mainly.

I have been buying the new Tamiya 1/48 kits in 3's (except for the Sherman, where I went for 5 to do various conversions) because they are all just so cute.

And because they are, fortunately, small enough to fit a bunch on the shelf .

I have a few multiples, couple of M1A1s, mind you one is a Tamiya and the other a Trumpeter with the mine roller.

Really other than that, its different variants of the same vehicle. M113, M577, M113 Hammerhead, M163, etc, etc
Leopard 2A5, Leo 1A4

Chally 1mk2, mk3, Chally2, bunch of different variants, etc, etc.

But as far as exact copies....only one I can think of is the Hobbycraft 1/72 Avro Arrow....have 2 of those.
