Hey okes,

We've managed to get a name for the SA forum (The Spingbok Club), and our membership is slowly growing. The problem is that except for about 5 or 6 regulars, the greater portion of registered Saffers are non-practicing.

Let's try get these guys involved again. Cougar and Bomberman, I believe both of you are IPMS members. How about some recruitment at your clubs? Bren, any mates of yours at school doing modelling?

We also need a few reviews, just to show these folks that we are active. I'm speaking specifically of reviews of not only SA specific products or products that pertain to SA military history, but also Southern Africa. Examples may include reviews of books on military history (Zulu wars, Transvaal wars, SA & Rhodesian involvement in WW1, WW2 & Korea, SA border wars, Rhodesia, Angola, Mozambique, the list goes on). As mentioned above, perhaps the IPMS members could get a few reviews and "how-to"s from the IPMS magazines (with the author's permission of course).

Ok, time to get off the tomato box and back to modelling. :-)

Nope, don't know anyone else who models besides armorama members, , maybe I can ask George Winship if he can send a group email to his mailing list, might get some recruits that way.

I've read a few good books by SA authors about their times in the SAAF & various regiments during WWII, maybe if school will relent I'll post some reviews.

I'll See what i can do,

Cheers,

Erik

Great idea about George, Erik. I see he has been elected to the IPMS SA committee. Perhaps he could do some recuiting there as well...
Don't forget to mention to him that we have listed his site on the Armorama links page.

Good luck with the school work.

Hi

I am the editor of IPMS Potch's newsletter and I will be more than willing to post the newsletter. Problem is most of the articles are from the net any way as our members are either computer illiterate or unwilling to write atricles. At this moment the chairman and I are the only two taking time out for the articles.

I will encourage the few members which do have computers to sign up at our next meet but we'll have to see what happens.

Wow, thanks Theunis.

I think if more Saffers join it'll really up the skills level of SA modellers. I know the other regulars (Bren, Cougar & Voodoochild) will agree with me when I say that there is so much to learn here and the ppl here are vert willing to share their knowledge. I also think Saffer's can greatly contribute to the world modelling community as well.

Once again, thanks mate.

Couldn't agree more

A little off topic, but has anybody given some thought to an SA Campaign (Land, Sea and Air - Any Scale)?

Cougar,
Not off topic at all, you must have read my mind.
I have been thinking about an African campaign lately. The reason for not suggesting it sooner is simply due to the numberof campaigns on at the present, I feel it may not get the attention it deserves.
My initial idea was to do a general modelling campaign (called Mission: L'Afrique) covering any armed conflict in Africa, covering all eras. The concept that I have being toying about with though is the exclusion of WW2.
My reasoning for this is simple: if this campaign goes ahead we'll have tons of WW2 stuff, and nothing else. The whole point of the campaign would be to encourage ppl to build something out of the ordinary, and maybe learn a bit about African history at the same time. The otherside of the coin is that I think ppl may be put off by this... bit of a catch 22.. What do you guys think?

Guys

We have been toying in the club for months with the idea of building a club diorama with some form of SA content. Trouble is that any kits of SA equipment is so expensive and usaully in 1/72 scale - bit brail for us.

The idea is to build one featuring say an olifant or a ratel and alot of troops somewhere in Angola and donate it to the armour school.

Really of the point. Which of you guys would be interested in Diesel and Dust. It is a weekend of fun at the armour school in bloem, hosted by IPMS bloem and the armour school. You get to do cool thing like ride around in the vehicles and some lucky sods even fire a few live rounds. I will give more details as it comes to us from the guys from Bloem.

Vorster,

Please let us know as soon as you hear more about Diesel and Dust. It will be best to post it as a new topic, and I can add it as an event, alternatively you can add it as an event yourself

When are we going to see some of your work in the galleries?

Click here to see my welcome to you guys that joined yesterday and the welcome by some of the modellers.

Why not give yourself an intro in the Introductions forum and have a browse through the other topical forums? Trust me, you'll find them highly interesting and some quite amusing :-) .

Hi

I am working on an Academy Tiger I (a remnant of my German days) and will have in progress pics soon. Have to get the digital from the work first though.

I'm not sure if this is that same Tiger I as you are working on, but have you had a look at this great article:

Hi all

Quick note of intro:

I'm Marius and I live in Potch. I like building kits, but abstain from club type politics. I'm a currently a tiffie in the SANDF.

Hope to catch you all soon on a post
