Good place to buy IF you have time AND they have the item in stock. Saw on the newsletter that they will not monitor or comment on web sites like this one about slow downs or trouble items and will only respond directly to the customer. Very unfortunate considering the people here are the customers!

Oh well.

I've always had good experiences with Great Models. Just the usual held items for items not in stock. And I've gotten responses from customer service emails. Maybe not the same day but I do get a response.

It's like shopping at Walmart. You go there for the cheap price so you put up with the little inconveniences.

I have no idea how much staff Great Models has and how many orders they get daily. I never expect any webstore to be perfect. Accurate Armour has really quick shipping but I guess that's assumed based on the mini-investment you make in one of their kits.

I don't know if this will help or not, now I never bought anything at great models yet, but when it comes to buying ships, I found out Internet hobbies has lower prices on their ships, but great models seem lower on their armor.

So sense I was buying a ship the last time, I went with Internet hobbies, and it came through as promised, but like I said, great models does seem to do a lot better on their armor prices, but Internet hobbies, does better on the ship prices by quite a bit.

Almost like free shipping difference. I just thought I would add this in case you might be looking for a ship.

I just went and checked out their newsletter. Kind of a "head in the sand" approach to a customer satisfaction problem. I just remember what one of my business professors taught us in college, "A satisified customer will tell his friends, a dissatisfied customer will tell everyone."

I have purchased from both Great Models and Internet Hobbies and both places were very prompt in shipping the items to me! You just need to have some patience with the postal system used if not paying for 1-2 day shipping!! You can be confident in using these sites. Just an obvious note--contact them by e-mail and ask if the item is in stock if you are concerned with immediate shipment.
Great Models also has a good e-mail they will send if you sign up that gives excellent information on new releases, model tips and other hobby info.

Good Luck!!

Actually, this is the problem and it is not the obvious solution for a first-time buyer. If a site specifically has a rating policy for items they list (in stock, limited, availability %, etc.), why should a consumer have to contact them to see if it really is "in stock"? If so, what's the point of having the rating system for availability? That's my beef with them.

When I order a several "in stock" items and they only have half the items actually "in stock", that's a 50% hit rate. Not too good in the world of retail inventories. It also makes doing business with them more expensive to the consumer.

If they have a set shipping price of (for example) $6 for an order of up to $50 worth of merchandise and you carefully chose just under $50 worth of merchandise to get the best bang for your buck you're actually "paying" more per item if they only ship $25 worth of merchandise once you factor in shipping.

Squadron, on the other hand, has an ordering system tied to their inventory. If you try to add it to your basket, it will show as not available and give you immediate feedback as to whether or not the item is in stock.

Now I know Squadron's not perfect. Many times new items on their flyer don't make it into their online website nor does the website automatically adjust the online price to reflect the sale flyer price. In these cases, you are stuck with calling the company to get the items you want at the price advertised.

I hope you do not consider this reply an attack on you. It is just my displeasure with a fairly imperfect ordering system that GM uses.

I agree with you completely, why these ordering places don't keep up with their stock is beyond me. It is not only GM, it is just about every place you try to order from, they all seem to have this, DGS attitude anymore.

They claim they don't have the time, or some other reason, but it is their lively hood, not ours, if there was just one super store that had everything with real low prices, and did care, everybody would be turning their business over to them instead of putting up with, saying they have it, when they don't.

Tying you up, when you could be getting your model else where, when you need it in a hurry. Now some of us this don't matter, and we can wait, but when you got a project going, and you need something now, you don't want to be tied up with a bad system.

Why can't these model places understand this, they got computers, and they were supposed to be there to keep track of their stock.

They all need that one book place to come in, and over haul their system, that one that when you order a book from them, they check out all the books that are like that book you picked and suggest them to you to, just to make you happy.

Shoot that guy could probably revolutionize the model industry as we know it, like when you buy a model, they would have all the accessories that you could buy for it, listed right with it, like tracks, barrels, wheels, other combination kits for it, and so on.

This should of been done by all of them already, but they can't even tell you whether or not they have it in stock for a day or 2, that is how bad it really is.

I can't think of that book ordering places name is Amazon, I think, or what ever one of them book store names are, but they started out from nothing, and became one of the leaders, just because they gave such good service. The owner still drives a K car, even though he is a billionaire, this is the owner of this book place.

Check out Sprue Bros. They don't have tremendous stock, but they surprize you with what they have. They keep very accurate inventory so if they say they have it they do and it gets out FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUst ordered a rare Real Models conversion set on Sat and received notification it is in mail today. Prices are definitely competitive with Great Models...and even better ones when they sell on Ebay
