I used to have Armorama as my homepage. Now when I open my exlporer it goes to some unknown search engine. I usually work online for product research. Then I clicked-on some link which had other links and pop-ups that swamped me.

Now I can't get to some of the sites I regularly go to because just when that page comes up it suddenly goes back to that offending search engine. And to add insult to injury it adevertises anti-spyware and anti-virus softwares.

I just wish I could meet one of the people who makes these stuff in person and

Can't you just reset your homepage? I had this problem on my daughters PC except her's was coming up with porno sites. I reset the home page, and then ran an anti-virus and spyware killer - sorted.

Unforunately, Dave, someof the spyware installs a program that will continually reset your homepage.

RD do you have windows XP? If so I would suggest saving all your vital info to disks, re-installing XP then right off install service pack 2 from windows update. I would also get Spyware Guard and Spyware Blaster which are both free programs availiable online.

Alternatively, if you want to not format and re-install you can get a prgram called Hijack This! It is a registry editor and when you run it you can eliminate the registry entries for the spyware. Do not abuse this one because you can eliminate some things that will cause your explorer to stop working as well as your installed programs if you are not careful.

All the programs I listed are available at SpyChecker.

Mondo,
Go to the following website:
http://www.pricelessware.org/
Go to the security section and get "AdAware" and "Spybot Search and Destroy".
All the programs listed on this site are "freeware". Just download and use.
I run both of these programs and they have kept my PC clean. Also, don't forget to get a "firewall"

You should get Adaware 6 .0. That is the best free spyware killer out there. My brother was going looking for cheats and he clicked a link. He said that the screen went black but I dont think thats true. Well anyways I went to go clean it up with Adaware and the hacker was smart enough to put on the thing that automatically shuts down your computer if you run the anti virus to get rid of it. So I ended up reformatting my computer. Havent had anything since. Good luck with your computer.

The latest version of Ad-Aware (Ad-Aware SE Personal Build 1.05) is available from the Homepage

http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Roughly half-way down the page there are links to where you can download the prog, along with Skins and a Language Pack

Yep,adawareand spybot search and destroy. Also get Windows registry cleaner to clean up all the dead lice from your box. Spend the money for the registered versions as the free stuff is good but not complete.

First, if you want your spyware program to clean more spywares, just run it in safe mode. In that way the program can check the files that couldnt be checked in another way.
Second, use another browser than IE that uses parts of the operating system and when a spyware attacks your computer goes right in your operating system.
Third, use Firewall program. Since i installed the Zone Alarm, the spyware programs that i run cannot find anything except some unimportant spywares.

I had the hijacked home page problem. I downloaded the Miscosoft AntiSpyware program. It's free and it solved the problem. It's on Microsofts website and is free. However, it only works in XP.

Well I'm formatting tomorrow. Then I'm adding all those, I'm going to get one of those Adaware things.

Just once I'd like to meet one of those programmers making these. Maybe in a casual conversation in a bus. Hmmmnnn.

I hear you about wanting to meet the jerks who make that spy software. I'd glue them to a Nebelwefer and let fly.

I could think of a million, slow, agonizing tortures I'd like to inflict on those slime of the earth. Had the same problem except it went one step further by secretly directing me to some site in New Guinea and I had to pay some $ 150 in phone bills. Why New Guinea, beats me. Tried spybot but it didn't help. What is it with this people, too much time, power trip, WHAT?

I better stop ranting otherwise my post will be censored. BTW thanks guys for the link to Adware and such, I will give it a try. My sympathies to you Mondo.

I've been highjacked a couple of times lately. Took me four days last time to get rid of it, messing about and deleting bits from the regestry and god knows where else. (got to be careful though.) I almost got to the stage of a full format.
The usaul spybot, adaware etc didn't touch it.
Trouble is as soon as a program can kill it some person writes another virus that can get past your protection.

Boil em in oil I say
