You can get them at mission models

http://www.missionmodels.com/

They have given me great service the times I have ordered from them. It is so suprising that pigments are hard to find, or at least odd that many of the online stores don't carry them

Check out your local Art shop. Ask them about pigments.

I just picked up a couple of bottles, 100ml each, for $20

So you pay what for Migs?? $6 for 20ml....and you can get 5X that from the artist shop for $10.

Mind they don't have the fancy color names like 1943 African Sand, so you have to suffice with names like Raw Umber, and Burnt Sienna.

Worth a look, save your self some money, for every 3 tins of Mig which is only 60ml...you could almost get 2 100ml bottles of artist pigments...which are the same thing.

So in the end, what you are paying for is packaging and promotion.

Hi there,

What are these pigments exactly? What is the difference between MIG pigments and pastel dust?

Cheers,

Jim

Pigments are basically what paint is made out of.

Take a tube of Winston and Newton's Oil paint, take out all the solvent until you are left with a solid.....crush it to a fine powder, and that is pigments.....pretty much how the paints are made.

Something I didn't know until talking to the owner of the art shop. Depending on what color of pigments you get, will sometimes determine the price.

If its a natural color like Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, etc, etc, they usually end up being cheaper, but other colors like bright pink, or bright yellow, have to be manufactured and can be quite expensive....in the shop here, the pinks and yellows are like $40 a bottle, where as the natural colors like we would use, blacks, browns, etc, are cheaper at $10 a bottle!!

Glad we don't use hot pink to replicate mud!!!!! LOL
