Hi All:
When I opened the box of my latest project, and while examining the parts I noticed this:

The rubber type tires were melted in the plastic, some kind of chemical reaction. Reminds my of my fishing days when you look in the tackle box and find all the rubber lures melted into the trays of your tackle box.
I'm surprised that more care is not taken by the
manufacters to try to keep these parts apart.
Anyway word of warning, when you first open your kit and perusing the contents, it's a good time to seperate these goodies, cause who knows when you will actually build the kit.

Cheers
Bruce

MOst Manufacteres put the rubber parts (or plastic) in a bag to keep this from happening......... This is why you should Paint the rim before putting the wheel on it....... it seems to act as a barrier.

Good point Matt, Why don't they teach these things at modelling school!, or maybe I skipped that day.
Now I wondering when all my wheels are going to fall off. :-)

That stinks, and is why i never use the rubber wheels that come in a kit. They are also a pain to clean up, and don't hold paint well. I would much rather have a plastic tire any day.

I'm glad you mentioned this, cause I wasn't aware of this, I never noticed this before, on all the car models they all had rubber tires, but no trouble, but I can't remember how they were separated.

But I opened up my Blitz, and all the tires were setting inside the tarp, and sure enough they got their imprint molded into the inside of the tarp now. So I'm going to open up the rest of them and check them out.
Thanks for the heads up. Here I have been putting car models together sense the 60's, and I don't remember a one of them ever having any trouble with the tires, all were 1/24, or larger, must of been the chrome rims that stopped the eating away, cause I still have some of them, and this doesn't show on any of them, but you can see the side tread pattern in the bottom of the tarp of my Blitz

That tackle box reference sure brings back fond memories - my Dad's old tackle box was exactly the same way .

I agree w/ STICKY about rubber tires

Luckily most kits today come with vinyl tracks and tires, not rubber ones. Vinyl is harmless for plastic.

I have a few cars at home, with the wheels melting away. Painting the rim on future builds is a good idea.
