Tet was a double turning point in the war!! Both military and political.

The Tet offensive destroyed the Viet Cong as a fighting force, leaving only the North Vietnamese Army as the communist forces. There is some evidence that the North purposefully sacrificed the Viet Cong to get them out of the way. The Allied Forces won a major victory on the battlefield, however it was something like the Battle of the Bulge: the enemy won the first round but the allies won the battle.

The other turning point was political, and this one determined the results. The US public was mixed on the war before Tet, but the anti-war side became the loudest after Tet and lead to US withdrawal and eventual Northern victory.

Sounds good kind of a lamb for slaughter.
