Thanks to Anthony Phillips (Antphillips) we are able to bring you a news story which, for many, will be a trip down ''memory lane''. The story concerns one of the original kit manufacturers - Airfix. The company, has been somewhat ''resurrected'' and is releasing many items from its original catalogue and is including, after many years of absence, the ''Multi-Pose'' range of military figures. The full story and list, can be seen:

If you have comments or questions please post them here.

Thanks!

I thought they've gone bye-bye. Nice to hear a word from them again. I wish they rework on that Sea Harrier.

That list really brings back some memories. Especially the Matador and 5.5 inch gun. Even today I don't think anybody has done that gun since.

Does anybody know if there 1/32 is really 1/32? Some so called 1/35 figures are really closer to 1/32. Could these be at all close to 1/35?

Airfix 1/32nd was 1/32nd. What tends to confuse people was their 'parallel' vehicle kits in 1/35th scale...Jim

Jim is right, the Multipose figures are to 1/32nd scale, and so is all their gear. Not exactly sure what scale the 'figures' were that came with the ex-Peerless/Max et al. 1/35th vehicles Airfix put out in the 70s though.

The Dodge Command vehicle had a figure in it which I think was meant to be be Patton - if Patton was around 5' tall (it's the saluting figure if anyone still has it)

Fantastic to hear they bringing back the multipose figures. I have heard so much about them.

A bit of a pity though that they are 1/32 (54mm). 1/32 don't always look right next to 1/35. have Airfix missed the boat by not doing the figures in 1/35?

In a sense the Multi-Pose figures are an example of how dumb Airfix were as a company.. Let me explain further. At the time they were released, everyone had moved into 1/35th armor. Airfix, in a burst of total genius produced a range of superb kits in 1/32nd scale. If they had the sense to 'read' the market correctly, their choice would have been 1/35th scale...

Their problem was that after years of market dominance, they seemed unable to understand the trends in the hobby. As I said in a previous post, the resurrection of many of their products is welcome, however, it may just be too late. Also with the costs of 'NEW' tooling, they may find it very difficult to release ver much at all...

A clear case of limited imagination?...JIm

Is that the sailing ship Victory, as in Nelson? Has any one built it? Any good? Wonder what the price will be. I am glad about the other releases, some good stuff.

Shinano - the Victory is the model of Nelson's Flagship. This was one of teh original kits and dates back to when Christ was a Corporal. I still think its a nice model though..Jim

Thanks Jimbrae and Drader, I have the Heller Victory and the Le Soleil Royal, both in 1/96, I am afraid to build them. They have about 2000 parts each and about seven miles of rigging They have to be the most complex models ever built. I am currantly working on the Revell 1/96 Constitution and boy is that a huge job So I will hold off on the big V
