Well, after quite some time I got my compressor out and preped the T-80 for painting- and it started out nicely...
Then the compressor develops a hickup, the paint cup blows the top, spills paint into my face and to put a dot on the i, the compressor blows up...

It just wasn't my night...

Cheers,

Sorry to hear that happened to you At times in this hobby it seems that we all have enemies preventing us from finishing a model

I am so sorry, but that sounds so funny. If that would have happend to me then i would have been in some deep pudding. My dads Porsche is right next to my compressor in the garage. Therefore if it would have exploded then paint would have flown inside the convertable and all over the seats. Well hopefully you get some new equipment and have better luck with it. I sitll cant stop laughing though.

Actually it was my first attempt with acrylics (MM Acrly- I used to use only Humbrol), so at least the cleanup went mercifully fast
I have to replace the compressor, but that won't be a problem because it's a homebuilt silent affair, and I just need to find a fridge that can donate another one..
An it is funny... for a moment I was The Hulk #:-)

I'm intrigued as to how you built a air compressor from a refrigerant compressor. If it's anything like a home a/c unit then the piston is lubricated by oil mixed in with the freon.

Yes, that's the system- the solution is to put a strainer (if I'm remembering the english word correctly) and a water trap at the air exit- after that the air is ok. Of course, I have to fill it up with a little oil every now and then, but it's not a problem.
I've noticed that Revell (of G) uses the same type compressor in one of their setups.
And the likely cause of the malfunction is a power surge, since I took it apart and still can't find anything wrong with the electrical or mechanical part of the setup...

You can also use one to make your own home made vacuum chamber for casting.

Do share, please... I've fooled around with casting, but wasn't satisfied with the results (usually the resin didn't fill out the mold).
