I was wondering if anyone has built any 1/72 scale kits from airfix . I saw a whole display of 1/72 kits of a British helocopter (all the same type) that was built in the sixty's in a discount store near my home. They also had a big display of 1/32 jaguar autos also. They were all marked $1.99 each.

Airfix 1/72 scale kits are all over the map. Their armor is really 1/76 or 00 scale, but currently boxed as 1/72 scale since that scale is in vogue.

The quality of the kits vary greatly. Same deal with their aircraft. You best bet is to find the exact kit you wish to purchase and then find a review on it to see how good it is. But at $1.99, you don't have much to lose.

I suppose i'm prejudiced as it was their products which brought me into modelling in the first place...

Airfix is really one of the great modelling 'tragedies' .They were truly the greatest innovators in the history of modelling. Unfortunately a series of events caused them to go bankrupt and now they seem to be somewhat reviving with new products and a revision of some older ones.

$1.99? How can you go wrong? Just remember what to expect. Some of them (judged by today's eyes) are poor representations - others were 30 years ahead of their time and still, with a bit of work and care can be built into stunning models. In Three words - Go For It! ...Jim

Go ahead and get some Airfix kits! Great value - you cant go wrong.

They have have some interesting subjects listed and now they have started releasing some new kits - Concorde 1/72 and later next year TSR2 1/72.

I started out on Airfix kits (a long time ago! ) So I am a little biased. Ok - so they might not be as good as a Tamiya kit but at half price you can have 2 kits for the price of one.
