I was in kl 2 days ago, and i found to my surprise, tamiya has new prices for their models and accessories. They're not as u might expect, increase in price but they actually lower the prices of their product. The acrylic colour costs only 9.90 per bottle, the small ones costs 7.90. Tamiya Spray can costs abt 19.90. Warbirds 1/72 aircraft kits cost from 29.90 to 49.90.
Sorry no time to look u guys up. Maybe next time, but i did manage to visit Hobby HQ to collect a few goodies!

hi oraora
u manage to get through our modeller-from-outside-kl-detector undetected.
well with the exception of their acrylics colors, i think the rest of the price is lowered sometime ago...
i must get the color this week...
btw, i noticed that Miniature Hobby carries Tamiya range now.

The reduction in Tamiya's prices has been done since mid-year I guess, during the Sale at Daisheng. However there is a verryyyy significant reduction in stocks at Daisheng outlets (at least in penang and Batu pahat)...no more military stuff, only cars and bikes...and not many of that too.

That's right guys the prices have been down for some time especially for paints. Stock as much as possible coz I did. Come end of this year Daisheng loses it distributorship of Tamiya. That why the clearance.
I've been slowly buying all the paints I'll ever need from now until I stop modelling which hopefully won't be anytime soon (hehheh).

Beachbum is right. Daisheng will not be marketing Tamiya models soon. Early this year, Tamiya HQ has made an aggressive move to setup up their first overseas showroom in Asia. This showroom is located in Paya Lebar, Singapore (haven't been there myself but interested) under their new Tamiya agent named Stargek. Different agent, different price.
As for the Malaysian market, Tamiya models are still available through MH and Hobby HQ. You might want to catch the Leopard A6 that is flooding the market now!
Tamiya paints - now that's something hard to get especially white and black.

So does anyone know who takes up the distributorship for Tamiya from 2005 onwards? I sure hope it's gonna be someone who has genuine interest in this hobby rather than those interested in making a huge profit.

With Tamiya's outlet in Singapore, I don't think anyone would be taking up the distributorship in Malaysia. Local hobby shops would just have to get Tamiya from Singapore.
As for the model prices, let's hope with AFTA and the USD un-pegging early 2005 would do something good for Malaysian modellers. Maybe no hope for Europe models...lah. Euro Dollar semakin naik.
