Paul is right, it's a full color patch of the 1st Aviation Brigade.

Amigo-- 1st Aviation Brigade from Vietnam. Commanded by a brigadier general the brigade controlled a large number of non-divisional Army air assets during the War. They were stationed throughout Vietnam. I think the main headquarters was at Vung Tau...someone better informed than I please chime in here.

Didn't they fly Chinooks and "flying Cranes". Seems I remember my first company commander had done that in "Nam and this was the patch he wore on his rght sleeve

Yes, but they also flew regular Hueys and gunships. If a division did not have organic air assets (like the Americal) the guys who lifted them and resupplied them came out of the 1st Aviation Brigade.
