Would anyone know if there's a company that puts out a 1/24 or 1/25 scale .50 machune gun. I'm sure i could scratch one, but the detail would be limited.

Several Jeep kits come with M2 .50 cal machine guns. The AMT Hogan's Heroes Jeep and the latest Hasegawa Jeep do. Check the packaging on the Hasegawa Jeep since they have versions without the gun.

The AMT Hogan's Heroes Jeep was reissued about a year ago. It is an old kit that includes a recoilless rifle and .50 cal as options for a regular Korean War era Jeep. It is readily available at Squadron.com: http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=ER31752.

The Hasegawa Willys MB Jeeps are brand new and come in three different boxings. One with trailer and .30 cal, one with no trailer and .30 cal, and the newest one has the .50 cal. It is kit #24502 and is available at Squadron.com too: http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=HE24502

As to why you you've never seen these kits? Don't know, perhaps you never looked for them.

Thanks Sabot, I guess i would pay just as much for a resin .50 cal. Maybe someone might have a spare one to part with or sell.

Mother- I've got the AMT Hogan's heroes jeep at the house. Let me check tonight & if it's got the .50 in it, it's yours.
Cheers

Here is the original version of the AMT Hogan's Heroes Jeep. Although it is boxed as a WW2 Jeep, it is a Korean era CJ-2 (sort of).
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2589&item=5925938082. No connection with this auction.

I've got the Hogan's Heroes Jeep as well, but I plan on building mine in a more military style. Don't know if I'll use the .50 or 106mm though.

Rob, make sure you check to see if you have the 5th vinyl tire for your spare. If not, you'll have to ask for one from AMT/Ertl.

Hey, Robin, thanks for that info. I never even looked for the correct # of tires, the vinyl ones in the kit are so poor, not too mention too modern, that I considered casting some 1:25 resin dunlops for it. I also never looked closely at the body style, if it is indeed the CJ-2/M38, I'll have to pitch the Idea of using it for my Project 'X' build...

Mother- well, I checked & here it is. Lot more stuff than I knew was in the kit!
The .50 is pretty basic, but you can probably dress it up easily(drill cooling jacket, separate grips, etc.). The kit also comes w/ an M1 & Thompson, plus some tools.
There are 2 sprues as well, with a bunch of junk I can't identify:
#5 in the photo is obviously the recoilless;
#4 appears to be a stretcher/litter;
#3 is a PRC radio of some type (looks like a 77 to this grunt);
#2 may be ammo canisters for the recoilless;
#1 could be a mount for the recoilless? probably need Maj. Rob to confirm this one for us...
Anyway, I bought this kit on a lark & have no need of all these accesories, as I don't work in 1:25. You're welcome to all of it, just PM me your snail mail addy.
Oh-what time frame are you needing this? we just had a death in the extended family & I won't be able to mail it out until Mon. at the earliest, as we will be traveling. Still want it?

I've got the original scans of the MPC Jeep. They show what the unidentified parts are for. Let me know if you want the scans.

The parts encircled with a question mark are (from left to right:

Mount for .50 cal pintle or recoilless rifle (#66)
Recoilless rifle breech (#63)
Recoilless rifle sight (#64)
Recoilless rifle support (#68)
Recoilless rifle ammo tubes (#72-73)

You are correct about the litter and PRC. I plan on using my kit to go with my 1/24 scale T-92 airborne tank. I want to do a recon team diorama with the Jeep and light tank.

The .50 cal requires parts 53 (gun), 54 (pintle), 55-56 (ammo can), 66 (bed mount).
