haloo evryone, i'm a newbie from shahalam, skrg working in architect firm in sunway.. it's great to have a forum of local modellers... can exchange info opinions etc.

just a bit of myself-

my first model: monogram 1/48 huey hog... buat cincai je. masa tu lpas spm 89- painted using watercolour & paint kat kedai hardware :-)

started modeling serioiusly (ahem!) while study in uk... a lot of model shops there! also begin to use airbrush w/can compressed air. first model- hsgwa f-16c 1/72..not well painted though but i still have it.

i used to make car/ship/bike kits but not anymore. now i build some afv/aircraft- mostly ww2german, but some modern as well.

current project:
monogram f-105 thud 1/48
tamiya tiger2 dio
tamiya horch
academy warrior
academy m-12 155mm
dml sdkfz 250/1 neu
dll 10++ kits.. tak ingat dah..

that all for now.. have to get back to work. bye.

Welcome aboard Mojimbo. Like I mentioned in the other post its great to have another M'sian on the forum. I'm not too far away from where you work as I'm staying in Pusat Bandar Puchong. The rest of the guys here tak jauh sangat other than Oraora but I'll let them introduce themselves.

Too bad you tak beli and stock up while you were in UK. Lots of pilihan and you can get almost anything unlike back here. I'm also a bit new as I only got back into the hobby early this year after a very long lay off. I'm working mainly with figures and a bit of dios.

Hope to see some of your work.

hi beachbum & silantra.. you guys ni buat kerja ke curi tulang??

btw while in uk i bought some kits (not much, don't have credit card back then!) mostly tamiya & dml, and shipped them back to msia when i finished study. but when i'm here i beli lagi banyak kits so yg lama2 tu pun banyak yg backlog.. he he he..

anyway, kedai model kat uk yg bestnya they have, other than plastic kits, a lot of accessories, decals, resin, books and paint stock.. you can find anything u want.

There is something like microset decal solution or something like that that you can apply in order to 'fix' the decals. However, I havent seen it being sold in Malaysia so far. looks like you can only get it on the internet.
Ask the guys in the public forum, some might be able to give other advice.

thanks for the advice lim, i never heard of that stuff. My friend did ask me to just spray clear paint on it, but i'm quite skeptical about it . Hope that microset stuff don't cost that much.

Mojimbo my man something just hit me as I was reading your mail. You said you worked in an architect firm. Can you get access to "free" or cheap model house making material. I'm specifically looking for styrene sheets. I'm currently working on a little vignette featuring British SBS raiding a boat.

Making the boat from scratch was tough. I ended up using the plastic used for plastic files. Not very good material. Problem here in Malaysia is getting good dio material such as styrene, etc. Can you get stryene sheets or some close equivalent of 0.5 mm and 1 mm. thickness? Its too expensive to order from overseas.

By the way I'm sure I speak for the guys when I say do post some of your pics. It would be nice to look at the progress of your dio.

hi beachbum... about the styrene sheets, have u tried the yellow pages under architectural model maker, or an art shop? i'm actually looking for the sheets myself for a bit of scratchbuilding on the afv... if i found any i'll let u know.

Is this Micro Sol or decalfix stuff available in KL? If yes, i will go get one when i go to kl end of this year, otherwise i have salvage some decals from other kits..

beachbum and mojimbo,
about the plastic sheet, in malaysia i manage to find 1 shop that sell Plastruct plastic. They are sole agent for plastruct in malaysia. Be advised that their prices are like hell!!! better u buy them from the internet. They're focusing in archi company and train modelers. Masa i pergi tauke kedai tanya ' you're from which company??' that's means his customer semua company meaning pakai duit company utk beli..that's why mahal...but i manage to buy 1 sheet for rm20

anyway yesterday i manage to find the Replica shop kg baru..according to the guy, they will take plastruct stocks soon....this is good news

Silantra,

So I see you finally managed to make it to Kg. Baru. If you go on Saturday afternoon you can meet up with a lot of fellow modellers who hang out there.

Actually I've already talked to Hilmi and Adnil who run the shop at Kg. Baru shop much earlier about the plastic sheets. The ones they have are slightly thick and are actually used as advertising boards. I've told them to try and get thinner ones and advised them to pack them in A4 size sheets coz a lot of scratchbuilders are looking for styrene or something similar.

I got some from them but their thickness makes it good only for making broad shapes but not finer details.
