A relatively short book--a little over 300 pages--which tells the history through letters, diaries, and news paper clippings of the 10 companies of Georgia volunteers who made up the Eighth Georgia Infantry Regiment that fought throughout the conflict. A very good book detailing how the men felt about all they saw and had to deal with during the war. Their feelings on actually being in combat, the losses of fellow military comrades and life-long friends through battles, treatment of wounds, etc.
There's hardly anything political about it, with who was right and who was wrong in this conflict, just the out and out dealings of what these men faced during their time in the war and how they put in theri time, both during battle and the long lulls that occurred between engagements. A very good book.
Thanks and take care. Sgirty
