I just wanted to pass along a hello and thank you to the fine folks that populate this site. The outpouring of support, sharing of information, and real honest-to-goodness constructive criticism is a testament to the special community that populates Armorama.

As for myself, I'm 35 and have recently rediscovered the hobby after a 20 year hiatus. I modeled a fair amount in my earlier years and even dabbled a bit in some diorama work. At that age, the work would be considered rudimentary, but I was happy with it.

As an adult, I'm still quite a novice compared to many of the fine modelers on this site. The key for me is to build for fun. I enjoy the time spent creating and seeing my 6 year old son's excitement as the latest tank, plane, etc. takes shape. It did my ego a bit of good when he couldn't wait to bring his friend by to see the Italeri M977 HEMTT I had just finished. Seeing their eyes light up was priceless!

Modeling has taken on a new signficance in my life as I've finally found a "family" hobby. My son is now learning the basic skills. Even better, my wife decided to join in as well! It's nice to get everyone around the kitchen table and interact as a family unit for a change.

I'm sure I could go on and on, so once again, thanks to all for their efforts in keeping the best modeling site on the 'net going.

Thanks to all for the warm and global welcome! Once I get a little more comfortable and confident in my finished product, I'll post some photos. My wife is currently working on a Lindberg Jolly Roger that's turning out quite well for her very first kit. I hope she'll let me post of pic of it upon completion.

As for myself, I bounce between armor and aircraft (WWII to modern) with an emphasis on armor used in Iraq. I especially like building those vehicles which aren't as widely known and visible.

I'm certainly glad that sites like this exist to help out the new modeler. Even choosing a good kit can be challenge with the many choices available.

Once again, thanks to all for the very warm welcome. I really appreciate it!

I was showing this site to my wife last night and she was enthralled with the work posted in the galleries. She's been searching for a hobby for some time, especially one where she can work with her hands and be creative. As long as she finds subject matter that interests her, I believe she'll be involved by my side for a long time to come. And, even better, she's agreed to let me post pics of her Jolly Roger once she's completed it.

Gunfighter -
Adding my welcome also. As an even "older", I'm still fortunate enough to have my sons interested and sharing in the hobby. They're mostly interested in "Figures" but the working together and sharing improvements, technigues, etc. is great. Glad to hear you're enjoying that also. It's a bond that will last. Like the commercial, "Bottles of paint and brushes - $15, Model kit - $30, Family sharing - PRICELESS". So again, welcome to a big, sharing, and definitely supportive family here at Armorama.
